Are you an experienced structural engineer who enjoys turning complex challenges into clear, practical designs? Ready to combine technical leadership with the opportunity to develop people and build lasting client relationships?

Join BWB’s Buildings and Built Environment team and play a leading role in delivering buildings that balance structural performance, commercial requirements and environmental responsibility.

At BWB Consulting, we’re more than engineers — we’re trusted partners, innovators and problem-solvers. Recognised as ACE Best Large Consultancy of the Year, we bring technical expertise and fresh thinking to projects that make a meaningful difference to communities.

Our Investors in People and We Invest in Wellbeing accreditations reflect our commitment to helping people develop and thrive. Excellence, innovation, integrity, collaboration and sustainability guide how we work with our clients and support one another.

From new buildings to the adaptation and refurbishment of existing structures, you’ll help shape projects across residential, education, logistics, commercial, leisure, healthcare and retail sectors.

You’ll work with clients ranging from developers and contractors to major private sector organisations, providing leadership from the earliest design concepts through to construction.

This is an opportunity to remain closely involved in engineering while taking greater ownership of project teams, client relationships and commercial delivery. You’ll join an expanding team where you can contribute your experience, influence design decisions and continue progressing your career.

Shaping designs from the outset: Develop structural concepts that respond to the client’s brief, exploring options and resolving technical challenges early.

  • →

Leading project teams: Coordinate engineers and technicians, manage workloads and provide clear technical direction throughout delivery.

  • →

Taking commercial ownership: Manage project resources and design delivery to achieve quality, programme and financial objectives.

  • →

Bringing disciplines together: Lead multidisciplinary projects at both a technical and commercial level, working closely with colleagues and external design teams.

  • →

Building client confidence: Explain design decisions clearly, provide practical advice and develop effective, lasting working relationships.

  • →

Developing others: Share your expertise, review work and support engineers and technicians as they build their skills.

  • →

Applying intelligent design: Use appropriate analysis and modelling tools to develop efficient solutions, with flexibility, buildability and sustainability in mind.

You’ll combine strong structural engineering knowledge with a practical approach to leadership and delivery. We’re looking for:

  • Substantial experience in a UK design consultancy, typically gained over 10 or more years following graduation or qualification.

  • A varied project portfolio, with particular experience in medium- to high-rise residential, education, logistics and commercial developments.

  • Strong technical judgement, particularly in early-stage concept design, alongside experience supporting projects through to construction.

  • Experience leading project teams, coordinating engineers and technicians, and managing competing workloads.

  • Commercial awareness and the ability to balance design quality with project budgets, resources and deadlines.

  • An understanding of other engineering disciplines and confidence coordinating multidisciplinary design.

  • Strong IT skills and familiarity with relevant structural analysis and design tools.

  • Clear communication, sound organisation and a collaborative approach to solving problems.

Chartered Engineer status is desirable, preferably through IStructE. We also value the depth of your practical experience, technical knowledge and leadership capability.
