The role works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Sales, and Finance, using computerized purchasing systems and sound judgment to balance cost, quality, and delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate supplier, part, pricing, order, and receipt information in the ERP/MRP system; resolve data discrepancies promptly.
  • Coordinate with Estimating and Sales to obtain supplier quotations for customer proposals and special orders.
  • Evaluate supplier delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost performance; document concerns and recommend improvements or alternate sources.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing to resolve nonconforming materials, shortages, returns, and supplier corrective actions.
  • Monitor material usage, reorder points, and inventory trends to reduce stockouts, excess inventory, and avoidable carrying costs.
  • Work with Finance to investigate purchase-order, receiving, and supplier-invoice discrepancies.
  • Analyze purchasing costs, price changes, and vendor options; identify and recommend measurable savings opportunities.
  • Prepare purchasing reports, maintain complete electronic records, and provide timely status updates to leadership.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, operations, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including experience in purchasing, procurement, materials management, inventory control, or closely related work.
  • Hands-on experience entering and managing purchase orders and using an ERP, MRP, purchasing, or inventory system.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word; ability to maintain and analyze electronic records and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to multitask, organize competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of supplier lead times, inventory principles, pricing comparisons, and production material requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, numerical reasoning, problem-solving, and vendor coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise judgment within established purchasing authority, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in engineered-to-order or custom manufacturing, machining, tooling, or outside processing; preferred.
