There was a time when all of America believed that the future of the physical world could be radically different. The engineers of the mid-1900s put a man on the moon in eight years, designed and built planes and submarines from scratch in under three, and conceived of building things we wouldn’t even be able to dream up today.

Today, the last of the engineers who imagined and built these systems are retiring. As they go, we lose not only the engineering knowledge gained from their decades of imagination and trial-and-error, but also the spirit that made that imagination possible.

Amca is working day-in and day-out to restore America’s ability to engineer anything that our critical systems depend on, and reinvigorate the cycle of creation that allows imagination to shape physical reality. We rapidly develop and manufacture new critical components and subsystems required to build and sustain the planes, military vehicles, and core infrastructure America needs. By restoring the capability of our antiquated supply chains, we increase the country’s capacity to imagine and realize new systems, and make a physical world that looks very different from today.

Overview

The Facilities Manager keeps Protoshop's equipment and infrastructure running and expanding at the pace Amca's programs demand. This role coordinates machine maintenance and repairs, power and compressed air drops, fume extraction, and building construction across internal teams, contractors, and landlords. The role does not need to do all of this work personally; it owns coordinating it to completion. As Amca expands, this role can grow into leading facilities across multiple sites. This position is 5 days a week onsite in El Segundo, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs on machinery and test equipment; manage service vendors, spare parts, and downtime escalations to maximize uptime
  • Plan and execute power drops, compressed air, fume extraction, and other utilities for new equipment, working with Protoshop engineers on requirements and timelines
  • Manage facility improvements and new-building buildouts, including scope, contractors, permits, budget, and schedule
  • Own building systems (HVAC, electrical, compressed air, fire protection), landlord relationships, and facility vendors
  • Maintain the facility layout and equipment records, and support capacity and expansion planning
  • Partner with EHS to ensure installs and building changes meet code and safety requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years in facilities, maintenance, or industrial/manufacturing engineering in a production environment
  • Track record coordinating equipment installs, utilities, and construction projects with contractors
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical, compressed air, ventilation, and machine maintenance
  • Strong project management skills: scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and vendor management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other AS9100 regulated manufacturing
  • Experience with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Experience with greenfield factory buildouts or multi-site expansion
  • Hands-on, high-ownership, and comfortable building processes from scratch in a fast-moving environment
