About the Role
~1 min readHims & Hers is looking for a dependable, detail-oriented R&D Sterile Compounding Technician to support sterile product development. Working alongside our formulation scientists, you will prepare development and feasibility batches, execute experimental protocols in controlled environments, and capture the high-quality data that moves new sterile products forward.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys iterating and troubleshooting while respecting the discipline of GMP, aseptic technique, and approved protocols.
Standard Hours: Typically 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
Flexibility Required: Must be available for occasional early starts or late finishes (window of 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM) based on production mixes, business needs, and travel.
Prepare and compound sterile development, feasibility, and engineering batches according to approved protocols, SOPs, and batch records.
Perform dilution, concentration, and gravimetric/volumetric calculations accurately and verify them as required.
Operate and maintain laboratory and process equipment, including balances, pH meters, mixers, filtration systems, pumps, and semi-automated and automated filling equipment.
Perform aseptic processing, filtration, and filling in ISO 5-8 environments, including material transfer and in-process visual inspection of units for foreign matter.
Perform routine compounding operations, including measuring, compounding, and sterilizing labware and solutions, and verify steps as required.
Label, package, and ship development and feasibility samples in accordance with approved procedures.
Execute experimental plans, adapting technique as results change, within defined protocol boundaries.
Document all work in real time in lab notebooks, batch records, and Excel, following data integrity principles (ALCOA+). Complete controlled documents and assignments right the first time, with minimal errors and within the required timeline.
Promptly report unexpected results, deviations, and improvement ideas to the formulation scientist or supervisor through proper channels, rather than working around them. Support continuous improvement efforts.
Identify, communicate, troubleshoot, and help implement solutions for problems noticed in the cleanroom or during critical processes.
Assemble and organize experimental data and communicate status to R&D and cross-functional partners (Quality, Manufacturing, Analytical). Collaborate across teams to keep projects moving.
Prepare, clean, sterilize, and depyrogenate labware and equipment; clean and maintain cleanroom equipment; keep cleanroom suites and support areas organized and inspection-ready.
Complete required training (GMP, aseptic technique, safety) and maintain gowning and aseptic qualifications (e.g., media fill, gloved fingertip sampling), working within your qualified scope.
Step in flexibly as priorities and timelines shift, and help meet batch schedules and project targets.
High school diploma or equivalent; [Associate’s/Bachelor’s in a scientific field] preferred.
Experience in a sterile compounding, pharmaceutical cleanroom, GMP, or laboratory formulation setting.
Strong aseptic technique, garbing, and cleanroom behavior.
Proficiency with pharmaceutical calculations (dilutions, concentrations, unit conversions).
Meticulous documentation habits and understanding of data integrity.
Deep understanding of why sterility matters, and of the differences between mechanical cleaning, sanitization, disinfection, and sterilization.
Hands-on experience with laboratory and process equipment (balances, pH meters, mixers, filtration, pumps).
Ability to work independently, understand objectives, and ask clarifying questions early to meet production and project targets with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to stand for extended periods and work in gowned, controlled environments.

Working knowledge of USP <797>/<800>, cGMP, and GDP.
Experience with needle/syringe manipulation; media fill and gloved fingertip sampling qualification history.
Experience operating semi-automated or automated filling machines.
Experimental mindset: you troubleshoot proactively and treat unexpected results as information.
Calm and deliberate under pressure.
Self-directed but not unilateral: you act with a clear understanding of requirements and seek guidance when unsure. You are comfortable being wrong and unafraid to ask.
Organized and collaborative: you keep work tidy inside and outside the cleanroom and communicate clearly across teams.
