About the Role
~1 min readTech9 is hiring a Senior SharePoint Administrator to own the SharePoint Online environment for a US-based client. You'll be the client's in-house SharePoint expert, reporting directly to their IT manager.
The client is partway through a SharePoint remediation project with an outside Microsoft partner, expected to wrap up in early 2027. Your first job is to help finish it well: review the architecture plan, speak up when something isn't right for the business, and make sure the result follows best practice. After the project, you'll keep the environment clean, enforce the governance rules set by a new steering committee, and train site owners so old habits don't return.
This role is for someone who treats an environment as their own. You'll advise on strategy one hour and close a quick storage request the next.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Act as the client's technical lead and advocate with the outside Microsoft partner, reviewing plans and raising concerns early.
- Validate the information architecture: hub sites, site structure, navigation, metadata and content types.
- Help migrate and restructure content, and build new sites to the agreed design.
- Clean up permissions and oversharing, moving access to group-based models.
- Enforce governance policies for site creation, naming, external sharing, retention and archiving.
- Say no to requests that break policy, and offer users the right way to get what they need.
- Manage the content lifecycle so outdated content is archived or removed on schedule.
- Handle day-to-day tickets: file moves, storage requests, access changes, archiving and user questions.
- Train site owners and end users, and build simple guides that explain the why behind the rules.
- Support the SharePoint steering committee and recommend improvements to the platform over time.
- 5+ years administering SharePoint, with recent hands-on SharePoint Online experience in Microsoft 365.
- At least one full migration you helped lead, from file shares or older SharePoint, using tools such as ShareGate or the SharePoint Migration Tool.
- Experience designing site structures from scratch: hub sites, flat architecture, navigation, metadata and taxonomy.
- Strong permissions and security management, including Entra ID groups, external sharing controls and permission cleanup.
- Experience setting and enforcing governance: site provisioning, naming policies, retention policies and sensitivity labels in Microsoft Purview.
- Content lifecycle management, including archiving and storage management.
- PowerShell for administration, reporting and bulk changes (PnP.PowerShell preferred).
- Working knowledge of how Teams and OneDrive connect to SharePoint.
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Power Automate for simple workflows and approvals.
- Microsoft 365 certifications such as MS-102 (Microsoft 365 Administrator).
- Experience working alongside outside Microsoft partners or consultants on a client's behalf.
- Experience supporting a governance or steering committee.
- You speak up. You raise concerns early and explain your reasoning, even with vendors, consultants or senior leaders. You're diplomatic, but you don't stay quiet when something isn't right.
- You take ownership. You spot problems before anyone asks and treat the environment as your own.
- You hold the line kindly. You can say no to a request that breaks policy and still leave the person with a path forward.
- You teach well. You explain technical ideas in plain language and help non-technical people change how they work.
- You're senior and hands-on. You're as comfortable advising on architecture as you are closing a quick ticket.
- You communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written, with US-based colleagues.
- You're reliable. Strong work ethic, follow-through and consistency matter a lot on this
