Technical Tools
Finance & AccountingAccountant
  • Location: Remote (Latin America [LATAM] strongly preferred)

  • Employment Type: Full-Time, Independent Contractor (ICA) — 40 hours/week

  • Schedule: Full-time alignment with U.S. Pacific Time (PST) business hours

  • Target Compensation: $2,200 – $2,600 USD / month (commensurate with systems agility and accounting experience)

  • Reports To: Founder & Managing Partner (CPA / Fractional CFO)

Our client is a high-growth U.S. fractional CFO and CPA advisory firm providing strategic financial guidance, bookkeeping, tax planning, and operational support to early-stage startups and high-growth businesses.

The firm operates an active, autonomous client acquisition funnel driven directly by a strategic partnership with a leading venture-backed fintech platform. Startups joining this ecosystem are onboarded directly to receive dedicated, responsive bookkeeping and fractional accounting support.

To service this compounding client inflow and transition day-to-day operations away from fragmented part-time contractor coverage, the firm is hiring a dedicated, full-time Financial Systems Specialist & Client Accountant.

This is not a traditional public accounting compliance desk or a rigid corporate GL filing seat. In this role, you will work extensively within an early-stage, proprietary fintech portal—a bespoke software platform built as a modern alternative to QuickBooks. The core accounting principles are foundational and straightforward, but the environment demands a sharp "systems detective"—someone with natural technical curiosity, comfortable navigating an evolving tool, investigating data sync discrepancies, and building efficient workflows where no static manual exists.

The Financial Systems Specialist & Client Accountant will independently own client bookkeeping maintenance, monthly reconciliation cycles, and day-to-day platform troubleshooting across an assigned portfolio of startup accounts.

Approximately 60% of your time will be dedicated to operational accounting execution (categorizing operational expenses, prepaid amortization, fixed asset vs. expense decisions, and driving month-end closes). The remaining 40% of your time will be focused on systems investigation, workflow optimization, and partner platform navigation—identifying why transactions did not flow through properly, resolving data exceptions, and coordinating with software product teams to streamline the close process.

You will work directly with the firm’s founder, who provides high-level US GAAP oversight and complex advisory support, allowing you to focus on clean transaction categorizations, system problem-solving, and dependable day-to-day portfolio execution.

Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle Month-End Closes: Own and execute timely, accurate month-end closes across a dedicated portfolio of early-stage startup clients.

  • Transaction Categorization: Review and classify routine operational transactions, payroll feeds, vendor invoices, and banking data.

  • Standard Accounting Treatments: Apply sound, practical judgment to recurring balance sheet items (e.g., distinguishing operational expenses vs. capital assets, amortizing prepaid expenses, and managing credit card reconciliations).

  • Portfolio Ownership: Maintain clean, audit-ready balance sheets and P&L statements without needing daily task assignment or line-item micromanagement.

  • Master a Bespoke Platform: Conduct daily ledger and reconciliation workflows inside our partner fintech platform’s custom accounting software.

  • Systems Detective Mindset: Troubleshoot data flow irregularities. When a transaction or balance does not calculate as expected, investigate the underlying logic, identify where the automation stalled, and develop functional workarounds.

  • Engineering Collaboration: Document bugs, edge cases, and feature gaps clearly to provide actionable feedback to platform engineers and software product teams.

  • Cycle-Time Optimization: Continuously test and refine workflow shortcuts to compress monthly close cycles inside the custom tool down to maximum efficiency.

  • New Client Inflow: Assist in onboarding the continuous stream of startup founders flowing in from the fintech partner channel.

  • Founder Communication: Provide clear, professional, and patient email/Slack communication to startup founders regarding missing receipts, account connections, and basic ledger inquiries.

  • Escalations & Special Adjustments: Escalate novel or non-standard US GAAP treatment questions (e.g., complex revenue recognition or multi-state tax queries) directly to the managing CPA.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • 3–5+ years of practical accounting or full-charge bookkeeping experience, ideally supporting multiple small businesses, venture-backed startups, or outsourced accounting clients.

  • Hands-on Month-End Close Experience: Proven track record independently reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, prepaids, and accrued liabilities through to a finalized monthly reporting package.

  • High Systems Agility & Problem Solving: You are not married to one standard legacy software (like classic QuickBooks desktop). You genuinely enjoy learning new tech stacks, navigating proprietary browser tools, and troubleshooting unexpected data errors like a systems analyst.

  • Fluency in English: Fluent professional verbal and written English communication skills, with a collaborative, client-facing presence.

  • Time Zone Alignment: Full-time availability to work during U.S. Pacific Time (PST) business hours.

Nice to Have

~1 min read
  • Direct experience working in an outsourced accounting firm, fractional CFO practice, or BPO servicing U.S. clients.

  • Exposure to tech startup financial structures, modern SaaS stacks, or venture-backed business models.

  • Practical understanding of basic US GAAP concepts (accrual accounting, prepaid expenses, depreciation).

  • Comfortable with Ambiguity: You thrive in agile, growing environments where systems and features evolve quickly, and you prefer building solutions over waiting for an SOP.

  • Autonomous & Proactive: You manage your own task list, spot reconciliation blocks early, and take pride in leaving accounts cleaner than you found them.

  • Analytical & Detail-Obsessed: You notice when a $10 DoorDash charge or a vendor credit hits the wrong bucket and naturally investigate why.

The ideal candidate is an accounting-grounded systems investigator. You understand debits, credits, and month-end closes, but you don't require rigid, pre-packaged software like standard QuickBooks or NetSuite to get your job done.

When you encounter an unfamiliar, bespoke portal, your instinct isn't to freeze or wait for a training manual—you click around, test transactions, trace where the entries land on the balance sheet, and figure out the system's logic. You enjoy working in high-growth environments where processes are still being built, and you take genuine pride in taking a messy or incomplete set of books and delivering a clean, audit-ready close.

You are patient, clear, and consultative when dealing with startup founders who might not know accounting fundamentals. Most importantly, you are dependable and autonomous: you treat your assigned portfolio of clients as your personal responsibility, noticing issues before the founder or managing CPA does.

The firm sits on an active, autonomous growth pipeline fed directly by a venture-backed fintech partnership. That client inflow is already compounding.

Right now, day-to-day operations rely on a patchwork of part-time consultants juggling limited availability. This role represents the operational backbone of the company’s core service delivery. By stepping in as the dedicated, full-time systems and client accounting specialist, you will:

  • Protect the Firm's Primary Revenue Engine: Directly service the fintech partner pipeline, ensuring incoming startup founders receive fast, flawless onboarding and month-end closes.

  • Unblock Strategic Company Growth: Free the Managing Partner from reactive operational firefighting and manual close troubleshooting, allowing the firm to expand beyond the partner funnel and scale into a self-sustaining advisory enterprise.

  • Bridge Technology and Accounting: Serve as the crucial feedback loop between practical accounting operations and the fintech partner's software development team, directly shaping how a next-generation accounting platform evolves.
