Cover letter Curriculum Vitae Statement of Research –
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Oregon Health & Science University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We seek an innovative early-career investigator whose research builds on the department's established strengths and ideally connects with other units at OHSU. The successful candidate will establish an independent and externally funded research program while contributing to BME's collaborative research and training environment.
Although applications will be accepted in any area of biomedical engineering, the department priorities are:
- Computational and AI-enabled models of physiology, including new approach methodologies (NAMs), digital twins, and the enabling technologies that support them.
- Next-generation platforms for sensing, diagnosis, and therapy, such as wearable and implantable devices and innovative imaging systems that capture multimodal physiological data and deliver or guide treatment.
- Multiscale, multimodal data integration, using AI and computational modeling to connect information across molecules, cells, tissues, organisms, and populations, with particular interest in cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
- Establish and maintain an innovative, independent, and externally funded research program.
- Develop and foster collaborative research relationships within the department and across OHSU.
- Mentor and supervise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research staff, and other trainees.
- Participate in the teaching and training missions of the department and associated graduate programs.
- Participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair in furtherance of the university's missions and goals.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering is dedicated to improving human health through research and technology development. BME researchers pursue a wide variety of topics in the realms of AI and machine learning, biomaterials and regenerative medicine, biomedical imaging, biophysics, biosensors and instrumentation, and systems biology. Biomedical areas of interest include cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal injury, as well as the basic science of physiological processes.
The department thrives on extensive partnerships with the Knight Cancer Institute, Knight Cardiovascular Institute, OHSU Casey Eye Institute, Advanced Imaging Research Center, and other OHSU research and clinical programs. These connections create opportunities to ground new technologies in important biological and clinical questions, connect computational predictions with experimental validation, and advance discoveries toward diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
