About the team

The Financial Reporting team protects the integrity of consolidated financial reporting across Argos. The team leads periodic and year-end consolidation, statutory reporting, technical accounting and accounting policy, providing high-quality financial information to senior management, the Board, shareholders, lenders and external auditors. This is a central Finance role with visibility across the business and the opportunity to influence strategic decisions through clear, reliable reporting and practical technical advice.

More about the role

As Finance Manager – Financial and Technical Reporting, you will own delivery of accurate, timely consolidated financial statements, supporting schedules and reporting packs. You will manage legal entity submissions, consolidation and acquisition adjustments, intercompany eliminations and foreign exchange translations, while maintaining clear close ownership and effective reporting controls.

You will lead the preparation of the annual report and statutory financial statements, act as the technical accounting lead on significant transactions and prepare clear accounting papers covering guidance, judgements, financial impacts and recommended treatment. Your work will also include maintaining accounting policies, monitoring reporting developments, coordinating the external audit and supporting Board, shareholder and lender materials. Alongside partnering with Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal and operational teams, you will improve close and reporting processes through systems, standardisation and automation, and coach the Financial Accountant.

More about you

You will be a qualified accountant with demonstrable experience of Group consolidation, UK-adopted international accounting standards and UK statutory reporting. You will be able to apply technical guidance to complex or material transactions and communicate the accounting implications in concise, commercially relevant language. Experience of significant transactions or business change will help you identify issues early and support informed decisions.

You will combine technical judgement with a hands-on approach to delivery. You will be comfortable coordinating demanding reporting timetables, working with auditors and senior stakeholders, and maintaining accuracy when priorities compete. You will also bring evidence of coaching or managing others, setting clear priorities and improving reporting processes, controls or systems.

Essential criteria

  • ACA qualification, or an equivalent recognised professional accountancy qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience of owning Group consolidation, including legal entity submissions, consolidation adjustments, intercompany eliminations and consolidated financial statement preparation.
  • Practical knowledge of UK-adopted international accounting standards, the Companies Act and UK statutory reporting requirements, evidenced through preparation or review of statutory financial statements.
  • Evidence of preparing technical accounting papers for complex or material transactions, setting out relevant guidance, judgements, financial impacts and a recommended treatment.
  • Proven experience of managing an external audit or Group reporting timetable and coaching or managing at least one finance colleague.
