Change the world. Love your job.
Texas Instruments (TI) is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Controls Engineer to join our Facilities Central Engineering (CE) team. This is an engineering position responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the controls systems that underpin 365x24x7 manufacturing operations. You will lead the engineering lifecycle for critical facility systems spanning air handling, exhaust, water treatment, drain systems, electrical power monitoring and life safety/hazardous gas monitoring while driving capital and expense projects focused on reliability, technology innovation, cost savings, and obsolescence management. Facilities works closely with TI's manufacturing team to understand how the utility systems impact the process as well as how to reduce consumption.

Responsibilities include:

  • Escalation & Expert Troubleshooting: Serving as engineering escalation point for 24/7 operations team including troubleshooting controllers, instrumentation, and controls system issues across critical manufacturing facility systems
  • Technical Resource: Providing engineering expertise for controls systems and infrastructure across air handling, exhaust, de-ionized water, cooling/hot/potable water, drain systems, electrical power monitoring, and life safety systems
  • Project Management and Leadership: Independently driving controls-scope projects from initiation through completion, including design, engineering, and commissioning, while providing technical leadership on large-scale, multi-discipline projects
  • Advanced Documentation: Developing and maintaining controls-related documentation, including Sequence of Operations, P&IDs, I/O lists, and panel/wiring drawings
  • Mentorship: Support mentoring through training and developing early career controls engineers and technicians to build technical depth
  • Continuous Improvement:  Developing and reviewing operational and maintenance procedures to ensure best practices are documented, standardized, and implemented

Texas Instruments will not sponsor job applicants for visas or work authorization for this position.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering,  Software Engineering or related degree
  • 5+ years of relevant controls engineering experience in an industrial or facilities environment
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting Siemens PLCs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience supporting or troubleshooting controls systems and infrastructure
  • Ability to prioritize and work under broad direction to resolve new and complex problems
  • Advanced experience with SCADA systems in an operational or configuration capacity
  • Proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal (S7-1200/1500) and/or Classic Step 7 (S7-300/400), Siemens PLC experience is the most critical technical differentiator for this role
  • Experience with Wago PLC platforms (CoDeSys) and Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation PLCs
  • Familiarity with one or more SCADA & Historian platforms: Aveva System Platform, Iconics, Siemens PCS7, Zenon CopaData, SQL
  • Experience with industrial network design, configuration, and troubleshooting; Cisco and/or Hirschmann equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of controls applications for facility process systems (air handling, exhaust, water treatment, life safety, power monitoring)
  • Understanding of PID loop tuning, Function Block Diagram and structured text programming, and alarm/trend analysis
  • Ability to read and interpret low voltage wiring diagrams and P&IDs
  • Experience with startup and commissioning of new controls systems
  • Experience with FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) processes
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis methodologies (e.g., 3x5 Why, 4-Corner Analysis, Cause Map)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and coordinate contractor work in the field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to document and communicate design intent and sequence of operations to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, interrupt-driven environment with high system uptime requirements
  • Experience in a semiconductor fab or data center environment is a plus
  • Demonstrated familiarity with LLM platforms (e.g. Anthropic Claude) and the ability to assess their potential benefits, limitations, and safety/operational risks when applied to industrial control and automation solutions.
  • Proficient with Virtualization, Windows Server, and PC hardware.
