HVAC/Refrigeration Lead

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven HVAC & Refrigeration Lead will provide leadership to internal technicians and external service providers, drive preventative maintenance strategies, manage complex equipment failures and capital projects, and support new store developments and refurbishment initiatives. The role is accountable for maximizing equipment uptime, reducing maintenance costs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement across all HVAC and refrigeration assets.

• Lead the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of HVAC and refrigeration systems across all restaurants.
• Ensure timely resolution of equipment breakdowns to minimise operational disruption.
• Oversee preventative maintenance programmes to maximise equipment reliability and lifespan.
• Monitor equipment performance and implement solutions to improve efficiency and reduce repeat failures.
• Provide technical expertise for complex maintenance issues and escalations.

• Lead, coach, and develop HVAC & Refrigeration Technicians and service providers.
• Manage workloads, productivity, and resource allocation.
• Conduct technical training, team meetings, and safety toolbox talks.
• Drive performance, accountability, and a culture of service excellence.

• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, refrigerant, and company requirements.
• Conduct safety inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.

• Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules across all sites.
• Monitor asset condition, equipment performance, and lifecycle management.
• Support asset replacement planning and CAPEX forecasting.
• Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

• Manage contractor performance and SLA compliance.
• Ensure service quality, compliance, and timely completion of work.
• Maintain effective relationships with suppliers and service providers.

• Support new store openings, refurbishments, and equipment replacement projects.
• Oversee equipment installations, commissioning, and handovers.
• Ensure projects meet operational, safety, and quality standards.

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Valid Driver's Licence.
• Trade Test Qualification in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning.
• Minimum 5 years' post-trade experience in HVAC and refrigeration maintenance.
• Proven supervisory or leadership experience managing technical teams.
• Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Experience supporting multiple sites or locations.
• N4/N5 Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Refrigeration.
• Facilities Management experience.
• Experience within QSR, retail, restaurant, hospitality, or food production environments.
• Project Management qualification or experience.
• Taylor Ice Cream Machine certification or hands-on experience.
• Energy Management experience.
