Under the direction of a NYS-licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides and documents physician-ordered occupational therapy services. The PTA provides superior customer service by modeling the Unity Brand Promise and Core Values.

Responsibilities

Within standards of practice established for a PTA, completes and documents (within agency standards) related to patient care, including visit notes, renewal orders, and verbal orders. Includes progress or lack of goal achievement in all charting.

Implements treatment programs individualized to meet patient needs and discharge plans: issues and provides instruction in the use of adaptive equipment. Confers with therapist directly, physician, and/or interdisciplinary team members regarding patient response to therapy and any concerns.
Provides PT gait and ambulation training. Instructs in the use of assistive devices.

Provides instruction in safe transfer using appropriate body mechanics and equipment.

Participates in discharge planning and provides timely and adequate patient and family teaching to facilitate the discharge plan.

Coordinates patient schedule with team members and readily and effectively adjusts the schedule to meet changes in census and patient needs.

Requirements

Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
Reads, writes, and speaks English
Must demonstrate computer proficiency.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Required Licensure / Certification Skills: Current NYS PT Assistant licensure required

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.
