The College of Professional Studies and the College of Extended Education house the Gerontology Program, which is fully online, asynchronous, and offered in 8-week sessions. The program comprises eight upper-division GERO courses that build to a Certificate in Gerontology (12 units), an Advanced Certificate in Gerontology Leadership (24 units), and a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Gerontology (90 units). The curriculum centers on aging in rural communities and is aligned with the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) Gerontology Competencies and California’s Master Plan for Aging. Students engage with older adults and aging services organizations in their own communities throughout the program, preparing them to work in and lead rural aging services.
This program is self-supporting and does not receive funding from the University. Gerontology faculty are not eligible for university health benefits.
