About Conetec

Conetec is a site investigation company working in cone penetration testing, drilling and geophysics, with crews and offices across the Americas, Europe, and Oceania.

We build our own software with AI at the centre. That includes our employee platforms for about 1000 people in seven countries with a built-in AI assistant, and next a commercial and jobs system and the tools our field crews and engineers use every day. Many of our people work in the field from their phones and have no company laptop.

The role

We're hiring an AI Product Developer: an experienced software developer who builds products with AI coding agents and builds AI into those products. You'll work directly with the people who use what you build, including HR, operations, engineering and finance, and turn what they need into working software in days rather than months.

AI writes much of the code, but this is a developer's job. You design the system, choose the data model, write the tests that prove the logic, and understand what ships. We move quickly where it's safe and add more review where the stakes are higher.

This is a full-time, in-office role in Burnaby, British Columbia.

What you'll do

  • Design, build and run web applications and services end to end, from the user interface to the database, APIs and cloud infrastructure.
  • Use AI coding agents as your main way of writing code, and own the quality of what they produce.
  • Build AI features into our products, such as assistants, search over company knowledge, document drafting and data extraction.
  • Turn a colleague's description or mockup into a clear, testable plan, the same day.
  • Review the code before it merges, and write the tests that prove the rules: who can see what, how numbers are calculated, and what happens at the edges.
  • Integrate with company systems, including Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, HR and ERP platforms, and our data on Azure.
  • Look after personal and client data across the Americas, the UK and Europe, including EU GDPR scope.
  • Keep builds, tests and releases fast and reliable, and keep decisions and AI rules written down so standards carry forward.
  • Measure how features are used, so we know whether they solve the problem.
  • Help non-developers define their features and test them before release.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of professional software development, building and running production applications that real users depend on. Experience with AI tools does not replace this.
  • A degree in computer science or software engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong TypeScript and a modern front-end framework such as React, plus back-end experience in Node.js, C#/.NET or Python.
  • Strong SQL and relational database design in PostgreSQL, Azure SQL or SQL Server: schema design, migrations, stored functions and access control at the data layer.
  • Experience building on Microsoft Azure, including App Service or Container Apps, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Entra ID authentication, Key Vault, and Azure OpenAI or Azure AI Foundry.
  • Source control, code review and CI/CD in practice: Git, pull requests, automated tests and pipelines in GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience building mobile-first web apps for people who work from their phones.
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot agent mode or similar) to ship production features, not just autocomplete, and a clear view of where they go wrong and how you catch it.
  • Experience building features on LLM APIs (Azure OpenAI, Claude or similar): prompts, retrieval, structured output and testing whether the answers are right.
  • Testing habits: you write tests that prove a rule, not tests that only raise coverage.
  • Working knowledge of web security: authentication, authorization, secrets, dependency risk and least privilege.
  • Plain-language communication with non-technical colleagues. You can explain a trade-off in two sentences, then build the one they choose.
  • Comfort with short cycles and visible work, including being wrong in public and fixing it.

Nice to have

  • Supabase, Deno and Netlify.
  • Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory or Power BI.
  • Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 integrations.
  • Privacy work under GDPR or PIPEDA, and multi-tenant SaaS.
  • Spanish, since part of our team is in Chile and Peru.
  • Integrations with HR, ERP or CRM systems such as BambooHR, Business Central, Sage X3 or Salesforce.
  • Geotechnical, construction or field-services experience.
