About the Opportunity

Medstar is the largest EMS and mobile healthcare provider in Michigan, responding to approximately 240,000 requests for service each year across eleven counties. Our education program is growing at the same pace as the rest of the organization. Initial EMT and Paramedic courses are offered at multiple sites throughout Southern Michigan, and new cohorts fill quickly as we expand to meet regional demand.

We are seeking two experienced EMT and Paramedic Instructors to join this team: one to lead EMT programs in our North Operations (Genesee and Bay Counties) and one in our Central Operations (Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties). Candidates should indicate which area they are applying for. This is an opportunity to teach within a high-volume, clinically advanced system and to help shape the next generation of EMS professionals who will serve the communities we cover.

As we prepare for our next wave of growth, we recognize the value of our existing personnel working in conjunction with our education team to develop a clinical team able to meet the demands of the highest quality patient care and service, today and into the future.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver initial EMT and Paramedic education in accordance with State of Michigan and Medstar standards
  • Serve as instructor of record for assigned courses within the assigned operations area
  • Evaluate student performance in both didactic and practical settings and provide structured feedback
  • Participate in the design, review, and delivery of internal continuing education and training programs
  • Maintain course documentation and reporting required by the State of Michigan and accrediting bodies
  • Represent Medstar professionally with students, partner institutions, and clinical sites

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; higher education preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching initial EMS courses preferred, or at least three completed initial education courses as instructor of record preferred, with verifiable results
  • Valid State of Michigan Paramedic license
  • Valid State of Michigan Instructor-Coordinator license at the Paramedic level
  • Current AHA BLS Instructor certification
  • Current ACLS, PHTLS, and PALS certifications
  • Valid Michigan driver's license
  • Ability to travel between Medstar education sites within the assigned operations area as scheduled

Why Medstar

Medstar combines the scale of the state's largest EMS system with a serious commitment to clinical education. Instructors teach from real system experience, work alongside a progressive clinical leadership team, and have direct involvement in how our clinical team is trained. If you are an educator who wants your work to reach a large clinical workforce and a growing pipeline of new providers, we would like to hear from you.
