Work Type:  Hybrid (1-2 potential days in office at 1001 Bluff Rd, Romeoville, IL 60446)

RJW is putting AI agents to work across transportation, warehousing, billing, and EDI integration. You will design and build those agents: choosing the right model, engineering prompts and context, grounding answers in our data with retrieval, and orchestrating agents that use tools, remember context, and work together. Every agent reaches RJW’s WMS, TMS, and other systems through our secure MCP gateway, so you build on a governed platform rather than around it.

About the Team:

You will work alongside Operations, business transformation leaders, and the AI & Automation team to turn real business problems into reliable, measurable AI solutions, built to high standards for security, accuracy, and maintainability.

Small teams and short paths to production mean the work you ship changes how a national supply chain runs. You’ll take on high-volume integrations, retailer compliance, warehouse automation, and data at scale.

What you will do:

  • Design, build, and deploy AI agents for transportation, warehousing, billing, and EDI, choosing the right model, engineering prompts and context, and orchestrating tools, memory, and multi-agent workflows.
  • Ground agent answers in RJW data using retrieval-augmented generation and other grounded AI patterns.
  • Connect agents to RJW’s WMS, TMS, and other systems through our secure MCP gateway, building the APIs, serverless workflows, and integrations they rely on.
  • Build evaluation sets, test cases, and regression checks, so every agent is predictable, grounded, and safe before and after it ships.
  • Monitor agents in production, troubleshoot issues to root cause, and continuously improve their performance.
  • Evaluate new models and AI platform capabilities and recommend what to adopt based on value, risk, and cost.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong Python skills and solid software development practices, including Git, code review, testing, and deployment.
  • Hands-on knowledge of large language models, prompt and context engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and common AI failure modes.
  • Experience with APIs, authentication, integrations, and structured and unstructured data.
  • Ability to design AI solutions that are grounded, testable, secure, auditable, maintainable, and attributable to root cause.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Two to five years of experience in software, data, or AI engineering.
  • Experience with Azure AI services, MCP, or agent orchestration frameworks.
  • A track record of shipping production AI, automation, or integration solutions.
  • Experience in warehousing, logistics, transportation, or other operationally complex environments.
