Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.

We're hiring a Director of People Analytics to turn trusted people data into the business decisions Toast makes about its workforce, and to strengthen the business impact of Toast's People programs.

Toast has built a strong analytics foundation over the past several years: a cloud data warehouse, self-service dashboards, an AI-enabled insights product, an employee listening program, and data science that has already shaped business decisions. The next stage is moving from standardized to strategic: making People Analytics the partner business leaders rely on for their most important talent decisions.

You'll lead a team across data engineering, analytics, data science and employee listening, based in the US and India. You'll report to the leader of Talent Infrastructure and work closely with Business Leaders, People Leadership, Finance, IT and our AI and data partners.

Responsibilities

~2 min read
  • →Strategy and leadership: Set and communicate the vision, North Star and roadmap for People Analytics, with buy-in from People and business leaders. Own People data strategy and reporting strategy, including metric definitions, governance and data trust. Partner with Toast's AI and data teams so People data powers AI-enabled insights safely and responsibly.
  • →Business partnership and impact: Build lasting partnerships with leaders, across Toast's major business areas and the People team. Turn analysis into clear stories and recommendations that leaders act on, and build that skill across the team. Design and run program impact measurement with Finance, from adoption through business outcomes and return on investment. Make sure new People programs above a set cost or reach launch with a measurement plan.
  • →Team and operations: Lead, develop and retain a distributed team across data engineering, analytics, data science and employee listening. Run a scalable service model: self-service first, clear intake, and prioritization by business value.
  • →Executive visibility: Prepare governance-grade workforce analysis for senior leadership and board committees.
  • →Cross-functional collaboration: Manage partnerships with privacy, legal, People technology and data engineering teams.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

  • →10+ years in people analytics, workforce analytics or business analytics, including 4+ years leading teams of analysts, engineers or data scientists.
  • →Business credibility. A track record of analysis that changed a senior business leader's decision, not only People team leaders' decisions.
  • →Storytelling and translation. You turn complex findings into a clear recommendation an executive can act on in 10 minutes, and you coach others to do the same.
  • →Data strategy ownership. You've set metric definitions and governance, and made a contested number, such as headcount, official across the People team and Finance.
  • →Program impact measurement. You've measured and improved the business impact of People programs with a Finance partner, and you know when a pilot or comparison group is needed and when an approximation is enough.
  • →Portfolio discipline. You've reset stakeholder expectations, said no to lower-value work and shifted a team from reactive requests to strategic priorities.
  • →Steady, energizing leadership. You've led a team through change, built a strong bench, and put your team in front of executives rather than presenting everything yourself.
  • →Enough technical depth to make good decisions about data architecture, modern data stacks such as Snowflake, and analytics tooling.
