About the Role
~2 min readThe Samsara Tax Department strives to be a best-in-class tax function that manages core tax processes efficiently while continuously adding value across the business. We are looking for an International Tax Manager to own the foreign subsidiary tax provision and U.S. international tax compliance, including Forms 5471 and 8858, Subpart F, GILTI, FDDEI and BEAT, as well as international compliance across the Americas region (direct tax), including Canada and Mexico.
This is a new role that will split the U.S. quarterly close between domestic and international, so that the international provision and compliance work runs alongside domestic return preparation and helps us accelerate our time to file. You will partner closely with the Senior Tax Manager and the domestic provision and compliance manager on a combined provision and tax return, work with the VP of Tax on key projects, and serve as the day-to-day contact for our outside tax advisors. The ideal candidate is technically strong, comfortable managing advisors, and eager to turn complex international tax rules into clear, practical guidance and efficient processes.
You will also lead special projects such as FDDEI analysis, BEAT modeling, transfer pricing coordination, automation, and international tax planning. This is a great opportunity to help shape how we scale and automate international tax at Samsara! This role reports to the Senior Tax Manager.
- You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
- You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won't be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
- You're energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
- You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibrer team that will encourage you to do your best.
- Own the international portion of the quarterly U.S. close, including the foreign subsidiary tax provision, in partnership with the domestic provision and compliance team.
- Lead U.S. international tax return compliance, including Forms 5471 and 8858, Subpart F, GILTI, FDDEI, and BEAT calculations.
- Work with outside tax advisors on Forms 5471 and 8858 and international technical work, so international compliance progresses alongside domestic return preparation and shortens our time to file.
- Support Americas regional direct tax compliance, including Canada and Mexico: coordinate data gathering, review local corporate income tax filings and statutory reporting prepared by external advisors, and track filing deadlines.
- Partner closely with the Senior Tax Manager and the domestic provision and compliance manager to deliver a combined provision and tax return, including provision-to-return true-ups.
- Lead special projects, including FDDEI analysis, BEAT modeling, transfer pricing coordination, automation, and international tax planning.
- Serve as the first point of contact for transfer pricing, coordinating with external advisors and internal stakeholders on intercompany arrangements, documentation, and year-end adjustments, with high-level oversight from Tax leadership.
- Research and document international tax technical positions, and communicate recommendations clearly to the Senior Tax Manager, VP of Tax, and finance partners.
- Gather and review foreign subsidiary financial and tax data from Accounting and Finance teams, and ensure accuracy and timeliness of inputs to the provision and returns.
- Support tax audits and notices related to international matters: gather documentation, prepare workpapers, and coordinate responses with advisors.
- Identify opportunities to improve controls, documentation, and workflows, and drive automation of international provision and compliance processes.
- Work closely with external tax advisors on research, compliance, and special projects.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
