Location: Remote, United States (preferred near a major hub like San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago, etc)
Thunder is looking for a Director of Delivery Excellence who strengthens the consistency, quality, and scalability of professional services delivery across Salesforce, AWS, and other emerging technologies. Serving as an operational leader and high-impact delivery strategist, this individual acts as an active catalyst for execution success—stepping directly into critical strategic accounts to align execution, optimize performance, and drive delivery excellence.
This role defines and improves the standards, governance, tools, and performance insights that enable delivery teams to execute exceptional client outcomes. Working across Delivery and cross-functional leadership, the Director identifies systemic friction and ensures long-term adoption of delivery standards. While Delivery and Capability leaders retain direct line accountability for client engagements, the Director provides hands-on leadership, account alignment, and governance.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Account Alignment
- Directly embed in pivotal strategic accounts to evaluate delivery performance, reinforce client alignment, and establish clear action plans for long-term success.
- Lead cross-functional alignment during complex project milestones, swiftly resolving scope, technical, or governance challenges to maintain engagement momentum.
- Translate real-time execution insights from strategic accounts into permanent, scalable operational enhancements across the entire organization.
Delivery Standards & Operating Model
- Define and maintain delivery methodologies, playbooks, templates and governance across the engagement lifecycle.
- Standardize project initiation, planning, risk escalation, quality gates and project closure, with flexibility for engagement complexity.
- Identify recurring delivery friction and lead practical cross-functional improvements.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Establish delivery KPIs and dashboards covering project health, schedule/budget adherence, margin trends, utilization, quality and client outcomes.
- Partner with leaders on project health reviews, risk escalation and corrective actions.
- Embed retrospectives, lessons learned, reusable assets and quality improvements across Salesforce implementations.
Enablement & Cross-functional Partnership
- Enable teams to adopt delivery standards and tools; partner with People on capability gaps and manager support.
- Work with Finance, Resource Management, Sales and Capability leaders on delivery economics, staffing processes and sales-to-delivery handoffs.
- Assess tools, automation and Salesforce ecosystem practices that improve consistency and efficiency.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years in technology consulting, systems integration or professional services, including Salesforce ecosystem delivery experience.
- 5+ years leading delivery operations, governance, delivery excellence or enterprise-scale process improvement.
- Deep understanding of the Salesforce implementation lifecycle, Agile/hybrid methods, project economics, risk and quality management.
- Demonstrated ability to step into complex, high-stakes enterprise environments to quickly stabilize performance, align stakeholders, and recover engagement momentum.
- Skilled at translating high-level business strategy into practical operational standards while adapting flexibly to real-world project dynamics.
- Proven ability to constructively challenge ineffective practices and influence senior executives, cross-functional partners, and delivery teams without direct authority.
- Track record of using delivery metrics and key performance indicators to guide decisions, optimize delivery quality, and protect project margin and profitability.
- Preferred: Salesforce certifications; PMP/Agile/Lean credentials; PSA/PPM experience; distributed delivery experience.
