About BenchSci

BenchSci simplifies the intricacies of disease biology, empowering scientific advancements. Our approach integrates AI with proprietary visual machine learning technologies. This combination has produced the first evidence-backed map of disease biology, aiding scientists globally. Understanding past research allows for clearer paths to future discoveries.

Founded by Tom Leung, David Q. Chen, Elvis Wianda, and Liran Belenzon in 2015, our journey began at the University of Toronto’s Creative Destruction Lab. The team developed an AI-driven solution addressing the antibody reproducibility crisis, which garnered support from Google’s AI fund, Gradient Ventures. This backing propelled a $10M A-round investment to refine our technology and business model.

By 2017, BenchSci introduced its AI-Assisted Antibody Selection application. This tool reduces experimental failures by leveraging text and vision-based ML models. These models interpret experiment types and link data through proprietary bioinformatics ontologies. Our intuitive interface makes these insights easily accessible.

Our technology quickly gained traction. Within three years, over 4,300 leading academic institutions and 16 top pharmaceutical companies adopted our AI solutions. Over 50,000 scientists now depend on BenchSci for critical experimental decision-making support.

Project Butterfly marked a significant milestone. This initiative, supported by iNovia and TCV with a $50M Series C investment, utilized our visual ML technology. The project aimed to tackle major pre-clinical research challenges, resulting in the ASCEND platform. ASCEND enhances the discovery and development processes across all therapeutic areas by providing deep insights into disease biology.

Recently, we completed our Series D funding round, led by Generation Investment Management. This substantial investment will further develop ASCEND, expand our offerings, and continue providing essential tools for accelerating drug discovery and improving patient outcomes.

BenchSci also offers remote job opportunities, allowing professionals from diverse locations to contribute to our mission. This flexibility helps attract top talent, fostering a dynamic and innovative work environment.

Our commitment to revolutionizing the scientific research landscape remains unwavering. With each step forward, BenchSci continues to set new standards in the field, ensuring that every scientist has the tools to push the boundaries of what is possible in disease understanding and treatment.
