 The role  

  • Lead the European Risk & Compliance function to proactively manage financial, strategic and operational risk for Standard Life International dac. 
  • To provide and ensure independent risk oversight across business activities, ensuring the business is informed, prepared and able to take appropriate and preventative action. 
  • Maintain and further embed an Enterprise Risk Management framework and Compliance framework for Standard Life International dac.

What are we looking for?

  • Set the vision and strategic risk agenda for Standard Life International dac to ensure the business is able to meet the requirements of key stakeholders, including regulators, Board, Group and Executive Management.
  • Continue to embed the Enterprise Risk Framework for Standard Life International dac to ensure that it is compliant with all regulatory requirements.
  • Assess and challenge all risk exposures (new products, structural change etc.) for Standard Life International dac and bring, where relevant, to the attention of the Board, to ensure decisions can be taken and actioned appropriately.
  • Develop and maintain the group-wide compliance framework to provide the Board with assurance that Standard Life International dac is compliant with all regulatory requirements.
  • Provide input into the maintenance of the Code of Conduct to ensure it accurately reflects the vision and strategy of Standard Life International dac and is in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Review and validate risk policies prior to sign off from the Board to ensure they are compliant with regulations.
  • Lead and develop the relationship with the regulators to ensure Standard Life International dac is positioned well and demonstrates regulatory compliance in a changing regulatory environment.
  • Work closely with senior management across Standard Life International dac to raise awareness, educate and embed a risk culture for Standard Life International dac.
  • Accountable for Line 2 oversight of the risk controls of the company, including facilitation of the setting and managing of its risk exposures, and reporting directly to the Board in relation to its risk management arrangements

Under the CBI’s Individual Accountability Framework (IAF) regime, this role includes the following Prescribed Responsibilities:

  • PR14: Responsibility for developing and maintaining the firm’s recovery plan, the accurate and timely reporting of all information required for recovery and resolution purposes, the implementation of measures necessary to achieve the operationalisation of recovery and resolution strategies, and for overseeing the internal processes regarding their governance, including the coordination of the entity’s compliance in those respects.
  • PR15: Responsibility for managing the firm’s internal stress tests and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of information provided to the Central Bank for the purposes of stress-testing.
  • PR24: Responsibility for managing financial risks from climate change.
  • PR27: Responsibility for implementing the ORSA process in the insurance undertaking.

Dimensions:

  • The role leads the Irish and German Risk & Compliance function for Standard Life International dac, 
  • Reports to the Phoenix Group CRO with a dotted line into the CEO Standard Life International dac.
  • As a member of the Standard Life International Leadership Team is responsible for development and delivery of the business and operating plans. 
  • Responsible for management of teams based in Ireland and Germany

Skills/ Experience: (Depth and breadth of specialised knowledge)

  • Proven track record operating as a Board level executive in large, complex organisations
  • Proven ability to operate at strategic level
  • Proven ability to influence others at the highest level both inside and outside the organisation
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, challenge and mitigate risks to the organisation and the main risks facing Standard Life International dac
  • High performing and experienced leader who has delivered across organisational boundaries on an international scale
  • Deep understanding of financial, strategic and operational risk within the financial services sector
  • Significant experience of working at Executive level contributing to the development and delivery of organisational strategy
  • A full understanding of Standard Life International dac business models and strategies to identify the main risks and the controls required for the management of risk 
  • A detailed appreciation of the regulatory framework in which Standard Life International dac operates, and the likely impact of key regulatory developments
  • Significant experience of leading people with skills in mentoring, coaching and developing talent.
  • Experience of effectively engaging and managing teams through strategic change and organisational transition.
