Weekdays. This leader will be responsible for the greater Charlotte area.
Leadership experience is required for applicants interested in this position. Office location is Carolinas Medical Center with a focus on Advocate Health facilities in the greater Charlotte, NC area where this manager's staff of medical interpreters will serve patients, families and healthcare providers.
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in a medical environment performing medical verbal and written interpretation and translation, leading and prioritizing staff work, and acting as a resource to staff on complex cases.
- Includes 1 year of supervisory experience in a medical environment.
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Health Care Administration OR Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nursing
- Possesses professional command of bilingual medical terminology, including anatomy and physiology, diagnostic process, treatment, prevention and health education models.
- Possesses knowledge concerning the ethics of medical interpreting as outlined by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC).
- Ability to work in challenging situations to oversee the work of interpreters involved in issues of delivering difficult messages including death and dying.
- Excellent human relations and communication skills are necessary.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to utilize video interpreting techniques.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Provides leadership and assumes accountability for the development and implementation of system-wide translation and interpretation systems. Ensures that services are provided in accordance with state and federal regulations, accreditation and compliance requirements, and organizational policy.
- →Participates in strategic planning related to the provision of language services throughout system.
- →Provides leadership and accountability for quality monitoring and improvement initiatives related to provision of translation and interpretation services.
- →Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with management, employees and medical staff to develop their abilities to work with and understand the services available to LEP (Limited English Proficient) and the deaf/hard of hearing.
- →Designs activities to improve, promote and publicize Translation and Interpretation Services within the health system.
- →Develops capital and operating budgets in conjunction with the director.
- →Monitors budget, analyzes variances and takes appropriate action.
- →Manages activities of employees. Facilitates training and continuing education of employees. Provides direction and support to subordinate employees to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with departmental policies and organization philosophy.
- →Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
- →Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale.
