The Commissioning Engineer provides highly technical support to an international client base. The Commissioning Engineer primarily executes customer requests for installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, performance testing, troubleshooting and customer training for cryogenic pumps & skids, LNG systems, and industrial gas equipment. The role requires extensive domestic travel, strong mechanical and controls troubleshooting skills and the ability to lead startup activities safely while ensuring customer satisfaction and project success.

The Commissioning Engineer shall be responsible for commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and startup of cryogenic pump packages, LNG application products, VFD panels, PLC-based control systems, and electrical equipment. The role includes site commissioning, customer support, FAT/SAT, electrical schematic verification, PLC/VFD communication testing, and coordination with the project teams.

Responsibilities

• Commission, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize cryogenic pump skid systems and associated electrical, mechanical, control, and instrumentation equipment at factory and customer sites.• Perform pre-commissioning, FAT, SAT, loop checking, functional testing, startup, sequence validation, interlock testing, and final customer acceptance activities.• Commission and verify the operation of cryogenic pumps, lube oil systems, motors, MCCs, VFDs, PLC panels, transmitters, switches, valves, and other instrumentation devices.• Read, interpret, and verify electrical schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring diagrams, control panel drawings, assembly drawings, P&IDs, GA drawings, and cable schedules.• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, control, instrumentation, communication, and process-related issues ranging from basic to medium complexity.• Configure, program, and validate control equipment including PLCs, VFDs, temperature controllers, burner management systems, and related automation systems.• Verify and troubleshoot industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/RTU, and RS-485.• Conduct instrumentation calibration, testing, verification, validation, and control philosophy reviews to ensure system functionality and performance.• Support SIL/SIF-related testing activities, trip validation, and Safety PLC interaction in accordance with project requirements.

Perform field wiring verification, I/O checking, panel inspections, and equipment testing during assembly and installation phases.• Ensure equipment and systems are built, installed, and operated in accordance with project specifications, engineering requirements, and quality standards.• Prepare and maintain commissioning documentation including startup reports, SAT reports, punch lists, field service reports, test records, corrective action reports (CARs), and handover packages.• Coordinate with customers, vendors, engineering teams, project managers, and site personnel to ensure successful project execution and issue resolution.• Provide technical support, recommendations for product improvements, and feedback to engineering and internal teams based on field findings.• Deliver customer training on safe operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of installed equipment and systems.• Assist with equipment assembly, wiring, inspection, and shop-floor activities when required.• Ensure compliance with IEC, NEC, NFPA, company safety standards, and cryogenic process safety requirements while maintaining a clean and safe working environment.• Support project planning by identifying work scope, resource requirements, spare parts, tooling needs, and other service logistics.• Travel domestically and internationally as required to support installation, commissioning, startup, maintenance, and emergency troubleshooting activities.

 

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the departmen.

  • Required Skills:• Electrical schematic reading and troubleshooting• Pump and cryogenic system commissioning.• VFD commissioning (ABB, Siemens, Allen-Bradley or equivalent)
  • •  PLC communication and IO testing• Motor control circuits and protection systems• AutoCAD Electrical/EPLAN (basic knowledge preferred)• Electrical testing of instruments (IR, Hi-Pot, Earth, Multimeter, Clamp Meter)• Cryogenic process fundamentals.• Interlock and sequence testing knowledge• Mechanical-electrical integration knowledge• Pump performance validation experience• Safety instrumented systems testing/validation• Advanced instrumentation verification.

The role is authorized to lead the testing, commissioning and warranty handover meetings, review and resolve technical specifications, coordinate technical information, schedule and monitor program activities, and ensure on-time and in-budget results. It includes coordinating complete FAT, SAT and within warranty repair/trouble shooting activities for potential failures. The role also involves evaluating IMS performance, ensuring accurate commissioning charges, mentoring engineering associates, supervising commissioning activities, coordinating pricing and technical specifications, preparing reports, managing project progress and client billings. Additionally, the role assists in client communication, cost estimation, and environmental impact studies, while receiving guidance on complex problems and work plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent in electrical engineering/Mechatronics engineering or Equivalent.• Around 5 years of relevant experience in electrical commissioning.• Experience in pump packages, VFDs, cryogenic systems, PLC communication, and electrical panels is mandatory.• Willingness to travel extensively for commissioning activities.• Ability to read P&IDs and electrical drawings• LNG experience• Cryogenic equipment experience• Industrial gas industry experience• PLC knowledge• Customer relationship Management• Technical reporting• Problem-solving capability• Cross-functional teamwork• Independent decision making

• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.• A valid driver’s license is required, and candidates may be required to show a clean driving abstract for travel between the NCI facility locations and client offices as required.• A valid passport, or the ability to obtain a valid passport, is required.• A willingness to work overtime, outside of regular business hours and regular working days, to meet customer needs.• Ability to perform effectively in high stress situations.• Candidates cannot have issues with heights or confined spaces.

 

Other Duties:In addition to the above stated roles and responsibilities, you shall be responsible for ensuring awareness, understanding, and application of Ex-products within the scope of the project & commissioning and must possess the necessary knowledge to verify compliance with relevant IECEx standards.
