LotusWorks is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Commissioning Engineer to support the commissioning, testing, and verification of instrumentation, controls systems, PLCs, control panels, and field devices within a mission-critical environment.

The I&C Commissioning Engineer will work closely with System Owners, vendors, contractors, and project teams to ensure equipment and control systems are installed correctly, tested thoroughly, and perform in accordance with design documents, project specifications, and client expectations. This position will be responsible for reviewing engineering documentation, developing and executing FAT/OAT testing, commissioning PLC systems, performing QA/QC inspections, and verifying instrumentation installations and calibration.

Responsibilities

  • Review equipment submittals, drawings, specifications, and design documentation to verify compliance with project requirements.
  • Develop Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) checklists and test procedures for I&C equipment and systems.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute FAT activities on equipment and control systems as required.
  • Review and verify that equipment and overall system FAT/OAT processes meet project specifications, design requirements, and client expectations.
  • Commission PLC systems, including taking PLCs in and out of service, verifying functionality, and supporting system startup.
  • Perform QA/QC inspections of PLC panels, control panels, field instrumentation, and associated hardware.
  • Review PLC panel hardware and instrumentation installations for quality, completeness, and compliance with approved design documents.
  • Coordinate with System Owners to provide technical verification of hardware and instrument installations.
  • Review System Integrator (SI) OAT documentation and conduct FAT activities on behalf of the client.
  • Inspect completed PLC panel hardware installations to verify proper workmanship, labeling, wiring, components, and overall quality.
  • Inspect field instrumentation installations to ensure devices are installed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Perform calibration and verification of various instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, level, and control valves.
  • Verify proper operation, signal integrity, functionality, and communication of instrumentation and control devices.
  • Identify deficiencies, document findings, and coordinate corrective actions with contractors, vendors, System Integrators, and project teams.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of I&C commissioning issues during testing, startup, and turnover.
  • Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, test records, punch lists, calibration records, and deficiency reports.
  • Work closely with engineering, construction, operations, System Owners, vendors, and other commissioning disciplines to ensure successful system turnover.
  • Participate in equipment startup, functional testing, integrated system testing, and final commissioning activities.
  • Ensure commissioning activities are performed safely and in accordance with project procedures, site requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Provide technical input and field verification to support project documentation, sequences of operation, commissioning plans, and turnover packages.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role. 

  • 3+ years of experience commissioning various Instrumentation & Controls equipment and systems in a mission-critical environment.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC systems, control panels, instrumentation, and field devices.
  • Experience with FAT, OAT, startup, functional testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Experience reviewing drawings, submittals, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Experience performing QA/QC inspections of I&C equipment and installations.
  • Experience calibrating instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, and control valves.
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation, controls, PLC hardware, and field devices.
  • Ability to identify installation deficiencies and effectively troubleshoot I&C systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with System Owners, contractors, vendors, System Integrators, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety. 
  • I&C qualification preferred.
  • Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable
