A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT), an employee-owned engineering consulting firm, is seeking a motivated Virginia Licensed Surveyor (LS) to join our growing Survey practice in Richmond or Northern Virginia.
This opportunity is designed for a survey professional who is ready to take the next step in their career. Whether you've recently obtained your Virginia license or are looking to expand your leadership responsibilities, AMT offers the opportunity to serve in responsible charge of survey projects, mentor staff, develop client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of our Survey practice.
Our survey professionals work closely with AMT's transportation and infrastructure engineering teams. The work primarily includes topographic, boundary, right-of-way, and utility surveys supporting roadway, bridge, utility, and public infrastructure design projects supporting our public sector clientele.

- Manage survey projects from proposal development through final project delivery.
- Supervise and mentor survey field crews, office technicians, and project staff.
- Coordinate project staffing, scheduling, budgets, and deliverables.
- Conduct project kickoff meetings with clients, project managers, and engineering teams.
- Establish project work plans, survey procedures, and quality standards.
- Oversee the performance of Topographic Surveys, Boundary Surveys, Right-of-Way Surveys, and Utility Surveys
- Ensure compliance with applicable VDOT Survey Standards and VDOT CAD Standards.
- Review field data, survey computations, mapping, and deliverables for quality assurance and quality control.
- Coordinate briefing and debriefing activities with field crews.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, invoicing, and financial performance.
- Prepare project scopes, proposals, and fee estimates.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Collaborate closely with transportation and infrastructure engineering teams.
- Identify and resolve technical, operational, and project challenges.
- Support the continued growth and success of AMT's Survey practice.
