Help kids feel confident in the water and learn skills that can save their lives. Aqua-Tots North Indianapolis is hiring part-time Swim Instructors to teach children ages 4 months to 12 years in our indoor pool.
No previous swim teaching or childcare experience is required. You do not need to be a competitive swimmer. If you can swim, enjoy working with kids, and are ready to learn, we will provide paid training.

Help kids feel confident in the water and learn skills that can save their lives. Aqua-Tots North Indianapolis is hiring part-time Swim Instructors to teach children ages 4 months to 12 years in our indoor pool.

- Starting base pay of $15/hour, with pay growth up to $18/hour. Applicable hourly differentials are added to your base pay.
- +$1/hour language differential for a foreign language that can be used in the workplace.
- +$0.50/hour for First Aid certification and +$0.50/hour for CPR certification.
- Paid training, ongoing coaching, and monthly paid in-service training.
- Flexible, consistent scheduling around school, sports, family, college classes, and other jobs whenever possible.
- Free swim lessons for children, siblings, and direct family members.
- A break room stocked with drinks, food, and snacks; Team Member of the Month recognition; and team events, usually at least quarterly.
- A Team Lead path and opportunities to grow. Strong team members may become eligible for leadership opportunities in as little as 6 months.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Teach group and private swim lessons using the Aqua-Tots curriculum and lesson standards.
- →Make safety your first priority. Follow pool safety rules and in-water incident procedures, and report concerns promptly to aquatic leadership or the Lead on Duty.
- →Help children build water safety skills through patient instruction, encouragement, and consistent expectations.
- →Build relationships with families, explain student progress after class, and answer questions about curriculum and advancement.
- →Update each student's digital Aqua-Card accurately at the end of your shift.
- →Check pool chemicals and maintain the chemical log as trained and assigned.
- →Keep teaching equipment organized and help clean the pool environment, including the deck, windows, and showers.
- →Apply coaching and evaluation feedback, attend staff meetings and monthly paid in-service training, and support team tasks assigned by your lead.
A good fit for future teachers, coaches, athletes, babysitters, camp counselors, and anyone who enjoys helping children learn. Experience with children, swimming, or aquatics is welcome, but not required.
Requirements
~1 min read- Be at least 16 years old.
- Have reliable transportation to and from work for every scheduled shift.
- Be available for at least 2 shifts per week so you can complete training and build your skills through regular practice.
- Enjoy working with children and families and support our mission of drowning prevention.
- Arrive on time, consistently work your scheduled shifts, and follow the school's attendance and call-out procedures. Communicate scheduling conflicts promptly.
- Be patient, coachable, willing to receive feedback, and committed to Aqua-Tots core values and safety standards.
- Complete paid training and attend required monthly paid in-service training.
- Be able to swim, demonstrate basic swimming skills, and work actively in the pool while teaching children.
We are hiring for all shift times: mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Weekday shifts are typically 4-5 hours; weekend shifts are typically up to 8 hours. Available shifts depend on school needs.
Weekend availability is strongly preferred. Weekday-only applicants are encouraged to apply. We build schedules around your agreed availability whenever possible. Once you accept a schedule, we expect you to work those shifts and communicate changes promptly.

Paid instructor training includes classroom learning, in-water practice, and co-teaching with experienced instructors. Training takes 40+ hours. You will not teach independently until you have earned your Aqua-Tots Water Safety Instructor certification. CPR and First Aid certification are part of onboarding; instructors must complete and maintain the required certifications.
You will receive ongoing coaching and evaluations on a 30-day cadence as you build your skills in this role.
