The Senior Broadcast Engineer serves as an advanced technical resource for Barclays Center control room and connected production systems. Reporting to the Director, Broadcast Engineering, this position leads complex troubleshooting, implements system improvements, and helps plan maintenance and event readiness. The Senior Broadcast Engineer provides technical guidance to engineers and event technicians while independently supporting live operations and escalating significant system risks to the Director.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Diagnose and resolve complex ST 2110, PTP, multicast, routing, audio/video, and control issues; use monitoring, logs, and test equipment to isolate faults and coordinate recovery with the Director, Broadcast Engineering.
- →Configure and support control room equipment, including Grass Valley Kayenne/K-Frame, Evertz EXE/MAGNUM, DreamCatcher, and related systems; validate routing, replay/playback control, paired fill/key workflows, tally, intercom, and synchronization.
- →Develop maintenance tasks with the Director, Broadcast Engineering, and perform approved software, firmware, configuration, server, and storage work.
- →Assist with installations and integrations, prepare technical plans, coordinate with vendors, and perform commissioning and acceptance tests with the Director, Broadcast Engineering.
- →Troubleshoot ingest, transcoding, clip availability, playback, and graphics delivery; verify formats and LED requirements; coordinate signal issues with LED/IPTV staff and timing/scoring system operators.
- →Manage NBA HSAN infrastructure, game clock systems, coaches’ feed distribution, locker room infrastructure, official replay systems, player tracking technology, and related systems.
- →Maintain engineering drawings, signal-flow diagrams, configuration records, inventories, and incident logs; refine monitoring and troubleshooting procedures and recommend lasting corrections to recurring faults.
- →Review requirements with production staff and visiting crews, lead rehearsals and line checks, confirm contingency paths, and communicate readiness, unresolved issues, and event support needs.
- →Train engineers and technicians, provide task-level guidance to assigned crews, share troubleshooting knowledge, and support a collaborative response to changing event needs.
- At least five years of broadcast engineering or comparable live production systems experience, including independent troubleshooting, system maintenance, and technical support during live events.
- A resourceful technical professional who exercises sound judgment under live event pressure, prioritizes competing needs, and escalates significant risks appropriately.
- A collaborative communicator who works effectively with internal partners, visiting production teams, vendors, multiple trades, and union and non-union crews.
- A supportive mentor who can train colleagues, coordinate assigned work, and produce clear technical documentation.
- Hands-on knowledge of IP broadcast systems, including PTP, multicast, IP gateways, IP addressing, VLANs, redundant signal paths, SDI/IP interfaces, and network and equipment diagnostics.
- Experience with switchers, routing/control systems, replay and playback servers, cameras, audio, and intercom.
- Ability to create and interpret engineering/CAD drawings, trace signal flow, install equipment, and test or repair copper and fiber infrastructure using proper termination, inspection, cleaning, and cable-management practices.
- Experience administering production computers, servers, storage, configuration backups, and monitoring tools; ability to review logs and coordinate network or access changes with IT and the Director, Broadcast Engineering.
- Working knowledge of codecs, frame rates, resolutions, transcoding, and playback troubleshooting; basic proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop for slates, test assets, and content corrections.
- Ability to mentor colleagues, coordinate technical work, prioritize incidents under pressure, and explain technical decisions clearly.
- This position is fully on-site at Barclays Center Arena in Brooklyn, New York.
- Consistent on-site attendance is required to support daily operations, collaboration, and direct technical support to production teams, employees, and business partners.
- Ability to work flexible hours to support live events, urgent technical issues, maintenance windows, and last-minute schedule adjustments is crucial. Schedules often include nights, weekends, holidays, long days, late nights, and early mornings, with on-call support as needed.
