The Accounting Manager plays a critical role in supporting Augusta Health’s mission and advancing departmental goals through measurable performance indicators and service excellence. This position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and helps drive outcomes aligned with organizational priorities.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager supervises accountants and accounts payable and is directly responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position manages to tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, year end audit preparation and works closely with analytics team members during month-end close and audit. The Accounting Manager will have contact with senior-level management and the organization’s key leaders (Department Directors and Managers) which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close and reporting processes.
- Reviews all reconciliation processes and files and approves such reconciliations per department policy.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely filings of local, state and federal reports.
- Collaborates with the other managers and senior staff to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
- Respond to inquiries from the Chief Financial Officer and the Corporate Controller.
- Responsible for all aspects of the year-end financial audit with the exception of the Accounts Receivable valuation.
- Works closely with the Corporate Controller to maintain an understanding of the Accounts Receivable valuation method and process.
- Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
- Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
- Address personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc. according to the organization’s policies.
- Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
- Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Requirements

- Licensure/Certification: None
- Experience: Five years prior supervisory experience in the healthcare financial reporting/general ledger area.
- Driver's License: N/A
- Eligibility to work in the United States and meet Virginia state employment requirements.
- Education: CPA
- Licensure/Certification: HFMA certification
- Experience: None
- Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare system, or related service-oriented environment
- Familiarity with Augusta Health’s systems, workflows, or organizational culture is a plus
- Ability to work under stress and to contribute to the team environment.
- Reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Microsoft office proficient – Word/Excel/Power Point/Publisher.
- Ability to learn and operate member management software.
- Ability to accurately perform multiple tasks, giving close attention to detail, while maintaining member confidentiality.
- Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
- Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Access and Word.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
