The Radiology Support Specialist plays a critical role in supporting Augusta Health’s mission and advancing departmental goals through measurable performance indicators and service excellence. This position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and helps drive outcomes aligned with organizational priorities.
Management of all digital images and hard copy films. Responsible for all Radiology release of information (ROI) requests in compliance with HIPAA, state and federal regulations.
- Responsibilities include processing CDs and routing of electronic images, scanning paperwork, merging patient exams and imaging, retrieval of films for intra and inter departmental use, as well as importing of images from outside CDs and cloud-based services into the PACS database.
- Provides support to physicians, technologists, and additional team members with any imaging needs. Submits request forms for addendums to Radiologists. Obtain any outside records to be used for correlation for patient’s recent or upcoming studies.
- Uses imaging and technology expertise (e.g. Radiology Information System (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), etc.) to facilitate accurate and timely interpretation and dissemination of imaging studies. Acts as a coach to other users of imaging throughout the system to facilitate optimal patient care and transitions.
- Assists in ensuring the department, and hospital Compliance, HIPAA and DNV guidelines are met. Performs clerical duties and workflow processes in RIS, PACS, Cloud-based sharing and additional hospital computer systems associated with this position.
- Assisting with directing patients, volunteers, and other hospital personnel as needed.
- Completion of assigned tasks in the clerical and imaging areas, as well as other duties on an “as needed” basis.
- Learn any new enhancements and computer upgrades for the RIS module, PACS application, as well as all image sharing platforms. Maintain computer printers in the office.
- Follow the proper protocols for releasing records to patients, physicians, and hospitals. Being sure that the proper paperwork is obtained, and/or filled out.
- Receive and send Fax information such as reports, schedules, and important messages. Assist with preparing the next day’s schedule. Look up the patient’s medical record number and pull any folders that are needed. Scan any paperwork into PACS and send any records to be digitized.
- Answer all incoming calls, and facilitate communication with, but not limited to patients, patient families, physicians, physician’s office team, and all Radiology modalities involved. Screen phone calls and provide proper messages. Properly transferring calls to appropriate areas when needed. Answer all patient inquiries and obtain accurate patient information to include the following: correct spelling of full name, birthdate, telephone number, as well as previous images, and ordering physician name if applicable.
- Performs other related activities as requested by the Radiology Supervisor or Radiology Director.
- Participates in maintaining Augusta Health values, indicators, and employee expectations.

- Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare system, or related service-oriented environment
- Familiarity with Augusta Health’s systems, workflows, or organizational culture is a plus
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
- Ability to meet consistent and punctual attendance.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
- Skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.
