When Bad Birdie started, we gave golfers something they’d never seen before: a bold printed polo designed to disrupt tradition and invite more people into the game. Today, we’re proud to create premium golf apparel that’s colorful, confident, and playfully rebellious, built so every player can feel good and have a hell of a good time on the course. As we grow, we’re committed to keeping that original energy alive, continuing to challenge what’s possible in golf while respecting the game and welcoming everyone to play their way. We started bold. We’re staying bad. And we’ll keep showing golfers what the game can be.
About the Role
~1 min readBad Birdie is looking for a hands-on Assistant Store Manager to help lead our flagship store at Westfield UTC in San Diego. You'll be the Store Manager's trusted second-in-command: driving sales, coaching associates, running assigned shifts, and keeping daily operations sharp. You'll lead from the floor, deliver the energetic customer experience our brand is known for, and take ownership without needing constant direction. This is a partnership with the Store Manager, who owns overall store performance and direction; you'll own day-to-day shift execution and delegated priorities, communicate early, and help make the whole team better.
Within the first 3 to 6 months, success looks like:
- You confidently run assigned shifts, including opening and closing, and resolve routine issues without relying on the Store Manager for every decision.
- Associates look to you for clear direction, real-time selling feedback, and hands-on support.
- You're helping achieve store sales goals through active selling and coaching around conversion, units per transaction (UPT), and average order value (AOV).
- Inventory, shipment processing, warehouse returns, shipping, replenishment, and visual standards run smoothly, with issues flagged early and coordinated with HQ.
- The Store Manager can confidently delegate priorities to you and trust that they're completed with clear communication and follow-through.
- Lead from the sales floor. Greet, engage, style, and educate customers through genuine, high-touch service.
- Model proactive selling and coach associates to contribute to store goals and improve conversion, UPT, and AOV.
- Handle routine customer concerns with good judgment, and escalate sensitive or out-of-policy issues appropriately.
- Lead assigned shifts, set priorities, direct floor coverage, and support smooth handoffs.
- Coach associates in the moment on product knowledge, sales behaviors, service, and accountability.
- Support onboarding and training; share specific performance observations with the Store Manager.
- Execute opening and closing procedures, cash-handling controls, shipment processing, cycle counts, replenishment, and daily store readiness.
- Maintain merchandising, cleanliness, stockroom organization, and brand presentation standards.
- Take ownership of inventory accuracy and discrepancies, warehouse returns, outbound shipping, and timely follow-through on operational issues.
- Work from the Store Manager's priorities while independently managing delegated responsibilities.
- Coordinate with HQ on inventory, returns, shipping, and other store needs; keep the Store Manager informed of sales, staffing, customer issues, and operational priorities.
- Contribute practical ideas to improve team execution and the customer experience without losing focus on fundamentals.
- Experience in a retail or customer-facing business, including demonstrated responsibility for leading shifts or coaching teammates.
- Evidence that you can sell actively, build customer relationships, and contribute to team sales results.
- Clear communication, sound judgment, and confidence addressing routine customer and team situations.
- Reliable follow-through and strong organization in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability for an in-store schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to perform essential floor and stockroom duties with or without reasonable accommodation, including extended standing/walking and handling merchandise.
