BGE is seeking an experienced Electric Transmission Environmental & Siting Specialist to support the planning, development, permitting, and execution of electric transmission and utility infrastructure projects. This position plays a critical role in evaluating routing alternatives, coordinating environmental reviews, supporting permitting efforts, and guiding projects through regulatory approval processes.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of electric transmission development, environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and utility infrastructure planning. Working closely with engineering, environmental, GIS, right-of-way, and client teams, this individual will help deliver successful projects that balance technical, environmental, regulatory, and community considerations.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and support electric transmission routing and siting studies for utility, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects.
  • Evaluate routing alternatives using environmental, engineering, land use, stakeholder, and regulatory considerations.
  • Coordinate environmental reviews, permitting activities, and regulatory approvals for transmission and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, environmental, GIS, cultural resources, biological resources, right-of-way, and public involvement teams throughout all phases of project development.
  • Conduct corridor analyses, route selection studies, environmental constraint evaluations, and feasibility assessments.
  • Prepare, review, and manage technical reports, siting studies, permit applications, environmental documentation, and regulatory filings.
  • Interface with federal, state, and local agencies regarding environmental permitting and project approvals.
  • Support stakeholder engagement, public outreach efforts, agency coordination meetings, and landowner interactions.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding environmental compliance, permitting requirements, and regulatory processes.
  • Perform environmental research, field investigations, resource evaluations, and data collection activities as needed.
  • Review environmental reports and permitting documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Assist clients with permitting strategy, right-of-way coordination, environmental compliance, and project development needs.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continued growth of BGE's Environmental Services practice.
  • Support business development efforts by assisting with proposals, presentations, and client relationship management.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to clients, agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Geography, Planning, Natural Resources, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting electric transmission, utility, renewable energy, or linear infrastructure projects.
  • Experience conducting or supporting transmission routing and siting studies.
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and utility project development processes.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and managing project schedules and deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of environmental constraints, land use considerations, and permitting requirements associated with transmission infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Effective project management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience with electric transmission project development and planning.
  • Knowledge of NEPA, environmental review processes, and permitting requirements.
  • Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy or transmission infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with public utility commission processes and regulatory approvals.
  • Experience with agency coordination, stakeholder engagement, and public involvement efforts.
  • Knowledge of right-of-way acquisition, easement coordination, and landowner outreach.
  • Experience using GIS, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or other geospatial analysis tools.
  • Existing relationships within the electric utility, energy, environmental consulting, or infrastructure industries.
  • Project management experience leading complex infrastructure projects.
