Position Summary
The MTSS Teacher provides direct, targeted instruction and intervention to students within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. This position is responsible for delivering evidence-based academic interventions aligned to the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards (MCCRS) in Mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), and Behavior Supports/Intervention.

The role is student-centered and focuses on improving academic outcomes through data-driven instruction, progress monitoring, and intervention implementation. The MTSS Teacher supports school goals by addressing identified student learning gaps and ensuring fidelity of intervention delivery.

This position does not serve as an instructional coach, evaluator, or professional development provider for staff.


EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
·    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required
·    Valid Maryland teaching certification/licensure in Elementary Education, Mathematics, English, or a related field
·    APL/APC required
·    Five years of successful teaching experience required
·    Experience working with diverse learners and implementing academic interventions required

QUALIFICATIONS
·    Knowledge of the Maryland Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Framework
·    Understanding of MCCRS for Mathematics and ELA
·    Ability to analyze student-level data to guide instructional decisions, identify targeted interventions, and make informed determinations about student placement and progression within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS).
·    Skill in delivering evidence-based instructional interventions
·    Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers and school staff
·    Strong organizational, communication, and progress-monitoring skills

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Student Instruction and Intervention
•    Provides direct instruction and targeted intervention aligned to MTSS (Tier I, II, and III as assigned)
•    Implements evidence-based interventions using adopted curriculum and approved resources
•    Deliver small group and/or individual instruction based on identified student needs
•    Monitors student progress regularly and adjusts interventions accordingly
•    Collects and records student intervention data
Data Analysis and Progress Monitoring
•    Analyzes student academic data to identify skill gaps and determine intervention needs
•    Maintains accurate records of student progress, intervention plans, and outcomes
•    Uses formative and summative assessment data to guide instructional decisions
Instructional Planning
•    Develops and implements lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards and intervention goals
•    Ensures instruction is aligned to school improvement goals and MTSS expectations
Collaboration (Non-Coaching)
•    Collaborates with classroom teachers and support staff to align interventions with core instruction
•    Participates in team meetings to share student progress data and coordinate supports
•    Supports schoolwide progress-monitoring data collection
•    The MTSS Teacher position is not intended to replace or perform the duties of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT), instructional coach, or professional development facilitator.
Student Support and Environment
•    Creates a learning environment that supports academic growth and student engagement
•    Communicates student progress and needs with families as appropriate
Operational Responsibilities
•    Maintains accurate student records including academic, behavior, attendance, and intervention data
•    Ensures proper use and care of instructional materials and resources
Additional Duties
•    Attend staff meetings as required
•    Supports school-wide MTSS processes assigned
•    Other duties as prescribed by Maryland State Law, Board of Education policy, Negotiated Agreement and Building Principal.
Supervision Received
•    Work is performed under the general supervision of the Principal.


ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
