Fast-transient power systems. Embedded controllers operating in millisecond time scales. Instrumentation and controls that turn a gas turbine into an intelligent machine. At Boom, you'll own some of the hardest electrical and embedded systems problems — on day one of your career.

We hire a small number of extraordinary early-career engineers who are ready for a much bigger challenge than most companies would give them. Many places expect you to spend years updating schematics or debugging legacy firmware before you're trusted with critical hardware. At Boom, you'll own real pieces of the electrical and controls system from day one – whether that's designing instrumentation for an engine test, developing embedded controls, integrating sensors, or bringing up hardware that has never existed before.

We're building two engines at once: Superpower, a 42 MW gas turbine for AI data centers, and Symphony, a medium-bypass turbofan designed for Mach 1.7 cruise. That means building electrical and embedded systems that can reliably monitor, control, and protect complex hardware under demanding operating conditions. There isn't a playbook for what we're building. You'll help create it.

Responsibilities

~1 min read
  • Own a defined portion of Superpower's electrical or embedded controls architecture – from instrumentation and sensors to embedded controllers, wiring architecture, and hardware integration.
  • Design, build, and validate electrical systems that generate the data needed to develop, control, and protect the engine.
  • Partner closely with propulsion, mechanical, software, manufacturing, and test engineers to integrate electrical hardware into a first-of-its-kind gas turbine platform.
  • Develop and troubleshoot embedded hardware and control systems during engine testing, quickly identifying root causes and improving system performance.
  • Help build reliable systems that connect hardware, software, and test – from first prototype through engine validation.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Internship, research, or project experience designing, integrating, or testing electrical, embedded, or control systems.
  • Experience with embedded programming, instrumentation, microcontrollers, electrical design, PCB development, sensors, or hardware integration.
  • Comfortable working in the lab with oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and real hardware – not just simulations.
  • A track record of taking ownership, finishing difficult projects, and solving problems without waiting for someone else to hand you the answer.

Internships require 100% onsite at Boom's headquarters located at 6803 S Tucson Way, Centennial, CO 80112.
