VACANCY: BUTCHER
CPJ St. Lucia Ltd. is seeking to recruit a Butcher to join our Warehouse / Temperature Control Department.
The successful candidate will report to the Temperature Control Supervisor and will be responsible for the safe, hygienic, and efficient preparation, cutting, trimming, portioning, packaging, and handling of meat and poultry products in accordance with company standards, customer orders, food safety requirements, and temperature control procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Cut, trim, debone, portion, mince, slice, and prepare meat and poultry products according to approved specifications.
- Prepare products based on customer orders, invoices, picking slips, and supervisor instructions.
- Ensure correct product weight, portion size, labelling, packaging, and presentation.
- Maintain proper cold chain practices and immediately report products that are thawed, damaged, leaking, spoiled, contaminated, expired, or outside required temperature standards.
- Minimize waste, shrinkage, incorrect cuts, product damage, and rework.
- Safely use, clean, sanitize, store, and account for knives, blades, saws, slicers, grinders, scales, wrapping equipment, and other butchery tools.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, health and safety, public health, and company SOP requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe butchery work area.
- Support stock handling, product rotation, order preparation, and warehouse operations as required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- Previous experience as a Butcher, Meat Cutter, or in a similar meat processing role is preferred.
- Experience in a warehouse, supermarket, cold room, food distribution, or food handling environment would be an asset.
- Basic knowledge of meat cuts, trimming, deboning, portioning, and safe knife handling.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and cold chain requirements.
- Ability to work in chilled, cold room, freezer, and temperature-controlled environments.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift, move, and handle meat products.
- Must be reliable, disciplined, safety-conscious, and able to follow instructions.
- Valid food handler’s permit or willingness to obtain same, where required.
