About the Role:
Join a team delivering mission-critical technology solutions that support Australian Defence capability. As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, automating, and maintaining secure, resilient, and scalable environments that enable the rapid delivery of software and systems to Defence customers. Working alongside software, systems, cyber, and infrastructure specialists, you will help drive DevSecOps practices, infrastructure automation, and continuous improvement across complex and challenging projects. Based in Canberra, you will be part of a collaborative and dynamic team with clear pathways to develop into senior systems engineering and cyber security roles.
About the Role
~1 min read- Design, implement and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient DevOps environments supporting Defence capability projects.
- Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate software build, test, deployment, and release activities.
- Deploy and support containerised applications using technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and OpenShift.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar automation frameworks.
- Collaborate with software engineers, systems engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and project teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise application and infrastructure performance across development, test, and production environments.
- Ensure DevSecOps principles are embedded throughout the software development lifecycle, including security scanning, compliance, and vulnerability management.
- Support system integration, verification, validation, and deployment activities within Defence and government environments.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, operating procedures, and engineering artefacts.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation, system reliability, operational efficiency, and service availability.
- Australian Citizen (required for Defence projects) with a min AGSVA NV1 clearance. The ability to obtain a Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance is preferred.
- A tertiary qualification relevant to the role.
- Experience designing and supporting DevOps or Platform Engineering environments.
- Strong knowledge of Linux administration, scripting (Bash, Python, PowerShell), and automation.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or private cloud environments.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, or similar container orchestration technologies.
- Familiarity with Git, GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or other CI/CD toolsets.
- Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, secure-by-design principles, and Defence security requirements.
- Experience working within Systems Engineering and project delivery environments.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Self-starter who takes the initiative with excellent problem-solving skills and brings a solution first mindset.
- A high level of communication both written and verbal.
- Ability to work either individually or as part of a broader team.
