About the Role:
The Systems Engineer Defence provides specialist engineering and technical ICT and systems support, primarily to our Defence Secure Mission Platform capability, whilst supporting systems operating within classified and secure Defence environments. Performing a range of engineering and technical ICT support activities, the role is a primary interface between technical builds, engineering compliance and systems sustainment and maintenance.
Based at our Jamisontown, NSW HQ, you will be part of a collaborative and dynamic team with clear pathways to develop into senior systems engineering and cyber security roles.
About the Role
~2 min read- Support the design, implementation and sustainment of secure ICT infrastructure and mission systems in Defence and government environments.
- Assist in the development, testing and validation of Standard Operating Environments (SOEs) in accordance with Defence security and technical standards (ISM, E8, CASG Engineering standards).
- Conduct system integration, configuration and acceptance testing activities to ensure operational readiness.
- Maintain system security baselines and ensure compliance with Defence security policies, accreditation requirements and hardening standards.
- Investigate, diagnose and resolve complex system, application and infrastructure faults within agreed service levels.
- Perform routine system administration activities across server, workstation and virtualised environments.
- Support the deployment, configuration and management of Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP services.
- Assist with vulnerability remediation activities and support cyber security uplift initiatives.
- Contribute to engineering documentation including system designs, build guides, operating procedures and support manuals.
- Participate in change management, release management and configuration control processes.
- Assist with the management and administration of virtualisation platforms and cloud-enabled technologies where applicable.
- Work collaboratively with project teams, engineers, cyber security specialists and customer representatives to deliver capability outcomes.
- Participate in system audits, compliance reviews and accreditation activities as required.
- Support incident response, root cause analysis and continuous service improvement initiatives.
- Maintain software licensing, asset management and hardware inventory records.
- Provide technical advice and recommendations to improve system performance, availability and security.
- Participate in support, maintenance windows and operational support activities as required.
- Australian Citizen (required for Defence projects) with a min AGSVA NV1 clearance. The ability to obtain a Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance is preferred.
- A BACH Engineering Degree (Electrical, Electronics, Software, Mechanical, Robotics).
- Experience working in a Defence project setting, preferably in either complex ICT, Engineering or Technology integration environments.
- Solid understanding of IT security principles, particularly within Defence or secure ICT environments (Familiar with ISM, E8, DSPF, PSPF).
- Hands-on experience with system troubleshooting, patching, and performance tuning.
- Ability to work in high-pressure, secure ICT environments.
- Ability to work in an agile environment.
- A strong level of commercial acumen and able to think outside the box.
- Self-starter who takes the initiative with excellent problem-solving skills – brings a solution first mindset.
- A high level of communication both written and verbal.
- Ability to work either individually or as part of a broader team.
