Every day, people across California turn to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, California (CAIR-CA) when they face discrimination, threats to their civil rights, or challenges to their freedom to practice their faith. As the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in California, we protect constitutional rights, advance justice, and empower communities through legal advocacy, public policy, civic engagement, and education.

Since 1994, that work has been made possible by a dedicated team committed to serving individuals, families, and communities across California. Behind every case, campaign, and initiative are people working together to create meaningful change.

Whether you serve clients directly or support our mission behind the scenes, your work helps build a more just, inclusive, and equitable California.

As the Outreach Coordinator, you will strengthen relationships between CAIR and the American Muslim community throughout the Greater Los Angeles area by building meaningful partnerships, expanding awareness of our programs and services, and connecting individuals with resources that support and empower their communities.

Through outreach events, educational programs, volunteer engagement, and collaboration with local mosques, Muslim Student Associations (MSAs), nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and other partners, you will help advance CAIR's mission and increase our impact across the region.

  • Work with management to develop and implement outreach strategies that strengthen CAIR's presence and accessibility throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local mosques, Islamic centers, Muslim Student Associations (MSAs), youth groups, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners.
  • Coordinate, participate, and represent CAIR in community outreach and educational activities, including Friday prayer outreach, Ramadan initiatives, Know Your Rights presentations, resource fairs, educational workshops, community meetings, conferences and other community events.
  • Recruit, engage, and support volunteers through outreach efforts, community events, and ongoing relationship building.
  • Assist in planning and promoting community engagement initiatives, fundraising campaigns, Ramadan outreach, annual fundraising events, and other organizational programs.
  • Create and distribute educational and outreach materials in collaboration with internal teams and maintain an organized inventory of outreach resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, community partnerships, volunteer engagement, and event participation.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to promote CAIR's civil rights services, legal services, civic engagement initiatives, educational programming, advocacy campaigns, and community resources.
  • Identify opportunities to expand community partnerships and increase awareness of CAIR's programs throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings, trainings, and community events as needed.

Other duties as assigned, dependent on organizational needs and employee skills. All CAIR staff are required to assist in general duties such as answering phones, weekly outreach, and other office tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or at least two years of relevant professional experience in a related field.
  • At least two years of experience working with Muslim communities.
  • Experience in community outreach, nonprofit organizations, volunteer coordination, or community organizing.
  • Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout Southern California.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage professionally and effectively with individuals in person and by phone.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking experience.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and individuals from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, SharePoint, social media platforms, and common cloud-based applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of management or supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with and experience working within the American Muslim community.
  • Fluency or professional proficiency in Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, or Urdu.
  • Experience using social media platforms and digital communications tools.
