Teaching at Canadian Academy:
Canadian Academy teachers inspire minds and nurture compassion by providing a rich and engaging programme that develops students’ skills, promotes curiosity and love of learning, and prioritizes well-being. All students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Grades 6-10, and most students pursue the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 11 & 12. Teaching and learning are enriched by opportunities for exploration in the arts, athletics, outdoor education, service, and more.
CA is a highly collaborative professional environment, where innovation is encouraged and student learning and well-being drive everything we do. Subject teams work closely together and learn from one another, and opportunities for professional development abound. A low student-teacher ratio and a stimulating, well-resourced, technology-rich environment make this an exceptional place to teach. Our teachers get to know their students well, both in and out of the classroom, and work together to ensure that every student is appropriately challenged and supported.
We are now seeking an inspirational, experienced IB MYP Design teacher to begin in August 2027.
Position Summary:
At CA, MYP Design is a required subject for all students in Grades 6-8 and optional in Grades 9 & 10; students in Grades 7-10 choose from an ever-evolving range of elective Design offerings that include both Product and Digital Design options. CA boasts several dedicated Design teaching spaces, including a Robotics hub. State-of-the-art resources that support teaching and learning include 3D printers, laser cutters, woodworking equipment, Adobe suite, and much more. A departmental technician supports the work of the Design teachers.
Robotics is a growing area of strength and ambition at CA. We are looking for a teacher who will lead, grow, and build our robotics program, both within the Design curriculum and through our co-curricular robotics offerings. Our goal is for CA students to participate in competitive robotics. Including internationally, and the successful candidate will play a central role in making that happen. For the right person, there is also the possibility of growing into a departmental leadership role.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be a lifelong learner with an innovative mindset, a wide range of technical skills in product and/or digital design, a creative approach to curriculum development, and a track record of encouraging and supporting students to pursue their individual and unique interests and make transdisciplinary connections in design and the related STEAM fields.
We are looking for someone who is genuinely excited by the prospect of growing a robotics program: designing robotics learning within the curriculum, coaching and inspiring student teams, and taking them to compete within and beyond Japan. We also seek someone with the confidence and design studio management skills to allow students at all grade levels to develop their key skills across the design cycle and to work independently in a range of material areas.

- Serve as homeroom Advisor for a group of approximately 10 Middle School students

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching Design in a secondary school setting
- Demonstrated experience in robotics (for example, teaching robotics, coaching or mentoring student robotics teams, or leading a robotics program)
- Must be eligible to obtain a visa to work in Japan
