Peraton is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Cloud Administrator to support the DOI USGS Permitting Modernization and Cloud Infrastructure program on the WARP platform. In this fully remote hands-on role you will serve as the day-to-day operational owner of the AWS cloud infrastructure supporting a diverse development workforce of 50+ engineers, 20 business analysts, and Government personnel across fully separated development, testing, staging, and production environments. You will manage AWS Marketplace subscriptions, enforce Government-directed security controls, monitor environment health, and serve as the primary point of contact for AWS support escalations. Operating in a strict FedRAMP Moderate federal environment, you will ensure platform availability, access integrity, and security compliance playing a foundational role in the success of one of DOI's most significant technology modernization programs.
Peraton supports the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in modernizing the federal permitting process through the Permitting Modernization and Cloud Infrastructure program. At the heart of this initiative is the WARP platform (Workflows, Authorizations, Registrations, and Permits), a cloud-native AWS environment purpose-built to streamline and accelerate how the federal government processes permits, authorizations, and registrations. The program leverages cutting-edge cloud infrastructure, AI-assisted decision support, and advanced data engineering to serve a large, distributed team of developers, business analysts, and Government stakeholders. Peraton's role spans the full lifecycle of cloud operations from provisioning and managing secure multi-environment AWS infrastructure and AI/ML services to delivering workforce training and certification, all within a rigorous federal compliance framework including FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST security standards.
- →Administer and maintain all AWS cloud environments (dev, test, staging, production) for the WARP permitting platform, ensuring availability, performance, and security at all times.
- →Manage AWS Marketplace subscriptions, including procurement, provisioning, renewal, and decommissioning of approved runtime subscriptions for permitting and development workloads.
- →Monitor environment health and performance using AWS CloudWatch and other observability tools; triage and remediate alerts, incidents, and service disruptions in a timely manner.
- →Manage AWS support tickets and coordinate with AWS technical teams to resolve platform-level issues, service limits, and infrastructure anomalies.
- →Control and manage consumption throttling for compute, storage, AI/ML, and data services to prevent budget overruns, in coordination with the FinOps Cloud Engineer.
- →Administer data operations: cross-AZ/cross-region data transfer, AWS KMS key management, CloudTrail audit logging, centralized S3 log archival, and AWS Backup configurations.
- →Manage Databricks cluster provisioning, storage, and networking within the DOI-designated environment.
- →Administer user access and personnel tracking for all contractor and Government personnel accessing DOI systems; immediately notify the COR upon any personnel departure or role change.
- →Execute and maintain required security agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and DOI Rules of Behavior documentation for all personnel with unsupervised USGS system access.
- →Assist in maintaining C&A documentation, contingency plans (per NIST SP 800-34), and security assessment support materials.
- →Perform all system administration duties within Government-designated environments exclusively; no Peraton-owned storage or systems used for Government data.
- →Complete mandatory annual DOI IT Security Awareness Training and maintain compliance with all applicable DOI, FISMA, and FedRAMP security policies.
