Peraton is seeking a Systems Engineer – Aviation Weather & NAS Integration to support the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) program.
This role supports the modernization of aviation weather capabilities that are critical to the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS). You will serve as a key engineering integration point between aviation weather systems, engineering teams, FAA stakeholders, subcontractors, and implementation partners.
You do not need to have experience with every aviation weather system listed below to be successful. We are interested in engineers with strong systems engineering, systems integration, technical coordination, or engineering project experience who are interested in applying those skills to aviation weather modernization.
Position Overview
In this role, you will support engineering execution for the Alaska Weather Needs Package, with a focus on the integration and modernization of aviation weather observation systems such as Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS), Visual Weather Observation Systems (VWOS), and Weather Camera Systems (WCAM).
You will help ensure that technical requirements, system interfaces, engineering activities, schedules, risks, and deliverables remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle.
This is a highly collaborative role. You will work across engineering, program management, quality, safety, cybersecurity, contracts, logistics, procurement, and other functional organizations while coordinating with FAA representatives, subcontractors, and installation partners.
Location: Remote, but will require travel to Washington, D.C.
This position supports aviation weather modernization activities for Alaska while being based remotely.
What You Will Do
Systems Engineering & NAS Integration
- →Provide systems engineering support for aviation weather modernization activities and the integration of weather observation systems with the broader National Airspace System (NAS).
- →Analyze and coordinate system interfaces, dependencies, and data flows between weather observation systems and interconnected NAS systems.
- →Help maintain visibility into system interactions, technical dependencies, risks, assumptions, and decisions.
- →Support requirements development, analysis, traceability, and verification activities.
- →Identify technical issues and coordinate with appropriate engineering organizations to drive issues through resolution.
- →Support technical reviews, program briefings, status updates, and stakeholder communications.
Engineering Coordination & Project Execution
- →Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities to ensure technical products, engineering analyses, drawings, reports, and implementation packages are completed accurately and on schedule.
- →Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, action-item trackers, risk registers, technical deliverable schedules, and other project-management tools.
- →Track technical issues, risks, assumptions, dependencies, and decisions through resolution.
- →Maintain traceability between requirements, site survey findings, engineering recommendations, project decisions, and final deliverables.
- →Coordinate technical discussions and working sessions with FAA representatives, engineering teams, subcontractors, installation partners, and internal functional organizations.
- →Support preparation, quality review, and delivery of technical reports, engineering recommendations, requirements documentation, and implementation packages.
- →Assist with development of implementation strategies, migration planning, and technical transition activities.
- →Recommend process improvements that improve engineering execution, documentation quality, and schedule performance.
AWOS & Aviation Weather Engineering
- →Support engineering activities for AWOS weather observation projects, including pre-site surveys, site investigations, engineering drawings, and technical transmittals.
- →Coordinate the development and review of AWOS engineering packages to ensure alignment with FAA siting requirements, Airport Layout Plans (ALP), and applicable modular scalability standards.
- →Coordinate engineering design deliverables, including vicinity maps, project location plans, site development drawings, grading and storm drainage plans, and equipment pad designs.
- →Ensure site plans appropriately reflect existing and proposed conditions, electrical service and trenching requirements, and known concurrent projects.
- →Coordinate engineering activities related to AWOS-C equipment and site-specific implementation requirements.
- →Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify and resolve site, design, interface, and implementation constraints.
Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Coordination
- →Coordinate closely with Engineering, Quality, Safety, Cybersecurity, Contracts, Logistics, Procurement, and Program Controls organizations.
- →Support procurement planning by identifying long-lead materials, equipment dependencies, and implementation constraints.
- →Facilitate technical discussions and support technical decision-making among internal teams, FAA stakeholders, subcontractors, and installation partners.
- →Provide clear communication regarding project status, technical issues, risks, dependencies, and required decisions.
- →Support successful execution of engineering activities from planning and design through implementation and transition.
