We are seeking a dedicated, creative, and compassionate Board Certified Music Therapist to join our Houston, TX team at The SPEAK Center. As a music therapist you will work with students across various grade levels including those with diverse learning needs. In this role, you will use evidence-based music therapy techniques to support students’ emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development by helping them reach their full potential in the school environment.

Requirements

  • Board Certification in Music Theory (MT-BC)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Music Therapy from an AMTA approved program.
  • Completed 1,200 hours of clinical training, including a supervised internship.
  • Previous experience working with children or adolescents in a school or clinical setting preferred.
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Professions Liability Insurance
  • Strong understanding of child development, particularly in special education or mental health contexts.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative, patient, and flexible with a strong passion for helping students succeed through music.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement individualized music therapy interventions for students with a range of abilities, including those with special education needs (e.g., autism, developmental delays, emotional and behavioral disorders).
  • Conduct individual and group music therapy sessions for children with developmental disabilities, incorporating a variety of music-based interventions to address therapeutic goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, speech therapists, and other school staff to develop comprehensive therapeutic plans that align with students' IEP goals.
  • Facilitate group and one-on-one music therapy sessions aimed at improving emotional regulation, communication, social skills, and overall well-being.
  • Monitor and evaluate students' progress through consistent assessment, adjusting interventions as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on student progress and therapy outcomes in compliance with school and state guidelines.
