SCOPE OF WORK: Plans, develops, implements and evaluates a comprehensive campus wide wellness/fitness/physical recreational program of offerings through the Fitness Center. This position shall report to the Director of Student Life.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Using the Fitness Center, exercise room, MPR and general Student Center spaces in creative ways to develop a comprehensive schedule of classes, programs, and offerings, to meet the needs of the MCC student body, staff and faculty.
  • Promotes the wellness/fitness/physical recreation offerings to the college community. Evaluates needs and interests as well as success of programs.
  • Develops community partnerships which bring learning opportunities, resources, and diverse experiences to our campus in areas of wellness and recreation
  • Serves as co-advisor to the MCC Health Fitness club and other clubs as assigned.
  • Co-chairs the Wellness Advisory Council. Assists with the implementation of initiatives prescribed by the Council as they pertain to the Fitness Center.
  • Represents the Fitness Center at College events such as New Student Orientation, Wellness Week, and Club Fairs
  • Monitors facilities and equipment use at all times, enforcing Center rules as regulations for facility and equipment use to ensure the safety of clients and proper treatment of facilities and equipment; cleans and maintains equipment.
  • Orients new clients to ensure facility users comply with proper use and care of equipment, safety, rules and regulations.
  • Teaches classes in areas related to health/wellness, such as Fitness Boot Camp, Body Sculpt, Core and more.
  • Reports safety concerns to management and Campus Safety on a timely basis.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations;
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in the field of exercise science/physical education. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the field of exercise science or related field with responsibility for providing program information to others. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License / Certification: CPR/First Aid/AED certification required.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to teach group exercise.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of the organization and operations of the departments or college in which position is assigned. General knowledge of current literature in specialized field of work. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Knowledge of English, spelling and arithmetic. Knowledge of the procedures and practices involved in interviewing. Knowledge of office record keeping and reporting. Knowledge of the regulations pertaining to departmental programs. Some knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration. Ability to gather, assemble, correlate and analyze facts and identify existing or potential problems. Ability to contribute to the development of sound operational procedures. Ability to make sound judgment in appraising situations and making routine decisions. Ability to follow specific instructions in gathering facts, data or resources in organizing required information. Ability to make decisions based upon fact-finding interviews within the parameters of the rules and policies of the college. Ability to meet with clients and explain programs sponsored by the department or college in which the position is located. Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
