We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as we are actively recruiting for a Safety and Risk Assessment Specialist. The Safety and Risk Assessment Specialist is responsible for managing and supporting workplace health and safety programs ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and company policies. This role conducts risk assessments, identifies potential workplace hazards, and implements measures to prevent incidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions. The successful candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with a thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other applicable workplace health and safety requirements. This position will report to the VP, Human Resources.

What we’re looking for

Develop, implement, and review corporate-wide strategies, policies, and programs related to Health and Safety management systems.
Ensure H&S strategies and policies align with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and organizational objectives.
Continuously evaluate and improve H&S management systems to promote a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace.
Collaborate with the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) to identify workplace hazards, address safety concerns, and support continuous improvement of workplace health and safety practices.
Provide guidance to the JHSC by monitoring, interpreting, and communicating applicable health and safety legislation, OHSA regulations, CSA standards, and industry best practices.
Manage compliance risks by identifying potential areas of non-compliance, assessing associated risks, and implementing appropriate corrective and preventative measures.
Lead workplace inspections and safety audits, analyze findings, and present results using relevant Health and Safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
Lead root-cause analysis for critical incidents, identifying underlying contributing factors, and implementing preventative measures and standard corporate practices to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
Drive the development of a strong, sustainable safety culture by promoting proactive risk management, continuous improvement, and ongoing compliance with applicable health and safety legislation.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, logs, incident and injury reports, ensuring timely documentation, regulatory compliance, and appropriate follow-up actions.

What you need to succeed

Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or actively working towards the designation is preferred.
Current First Aid and CPR Certification required
JHSC certification required
Knowledge of workplace First Aid requirements and procedures, including maintaining appropriate documentation and supporting workplace compliance
Train-the-Trainer certification or experience is considered an asset, particularly in First Aid, lifting devices, lockout or other related workplace safety programs.
Knowledge of injury prevention, incident management, disability management (WSIB) and early and safe return-to-work documentation.
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, and CSA standards.
2 to 5 years hands-on safety workplace experience

Wage Range: $60,000 - $90,000 annually
