Cherokee Town & Country Club, located in the Atlanta, GA area, is seeking an honest, trustworthy, hardworking, innovative, and detail-oriented individual to join our Golf Course Maintenance team as a 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

• →Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to supervise, schedule, and train a large crew of full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees.
• →Observe golf course conditions and provide suggestions and recommendations to Golf Course Maintenance leadership.
• →Incorporate and enforce safe work practices throughout daily operations.
• →Provide safety training to employees as directed.
• →Apply fertilizers and plant protectants.
• →Calibrate sprayers and spreaders used for applications.
• →Accurately record fertilizer and plant protectant applications.
• →Help ensure applications and practices comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
• →Perform irrigation scheduling.
• →Complete basic irrigation repairs.
• →Execute and manage golf course improvement projects.
• →Perform basic mowing tasks and cultural practices when needed.
• →Recognize golf course maintenance problems and bring a strong eye for detail to daily course conditions.
• →Interact professionally with Club members throughout the day.
• →Communicate effectively with employees and leadership, including speaking in front of larger groups.
• →Work effectively as part of a large Golf Course Maintenance team.
• →Assist fellow employees and departments as needed while demonstrating Cherokee's “What can I do? How can I help?” philosophy.

Requirements

• Has an eye for detail and the ability to recognize golf course maintenance problems.
• Is comfortable interacting professionally with Club members.
• Is comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
• Can communicate in basic workplace Spanish.
• Is willing to assist other employees and contribute to Cherokee's strong team culture.
• Is interested in gaining exposure to construction and renovation work involving greens, tees, fairways, irrigation, drainage infrastructure, and bunkers.

• 1–3 years of golf course maintenance experience.
• Ability to obtain a Georgia pesticide license within six months of employment.

This position provides hands-on exposure to a substantial and progressive Golf Course Maintenance operation.

• Maintenance Team: Approximately 50–64 employees during peak season.
• Equipment: A combination of John Deere and Toro equipment.
• Irrigation: Rain Bird irrigation central and controllers.
• Typical Work Hours: Approximately 45–55 hours per week, with regularly scheduled time off during the season.
• Professional Development: Cherokee has a consistent history of advancement for Assistant Superintendents within the golf industry.
• Future Development: The Club has secured golf course architect Andrew Green to create a Golf Course Master Plan for the entire property, creating opportunities for exposure to future construction and renovation projects.

Throughout Ken Lee's 14-year tenure as Director of Golf Course Operations, he has had the opportunity to see several former Superintendents advance into larger leadership roles throughout the golf industry.

The Country Club features 36 holes of championship golf and 15 acres of practice facilities.

Our practice facilities include:

• A double-sided driving range
• A three-green short game facility
• A dedicated chipping green

The golf courses feature:

• Champion Ultradwarf greens
• TifGrand Hybrid Bermudagrass approaches and collection areas
• Tifway Hybrid Bermudagrass fairways
• A mixture of Zeon Zoysia and Tifway tees

The Golf Course Maintenance team operates from a state-of-the-art turf care facility built in 2000.

Throughout its history, Cherokee has hosted some of the region's top amateur golf events, most recently including the 100th playing of the Georgia Amateur Championship in 2021.

The Club has also secured the services of golf course architect Andrew Green, one of the most respected and sought-after architects in the industry, to create a Golf Course Master Plan for the entire property.
