The Middle Leader for Wellbeing (Staff and Pupils) plays a key leadership role in fostering a positive, inclusive and nurturing environment across the Junior Years.
The postholder will lead and coordinate approaches that promote the physical, social, emotional and mental wellbeing of pupils and staff, helping to create a school culture in which all members of the community feel safe, supported, valued and able to thrive.
A key aspect of the role is to promote positive behaviour, strong relationships and consistent expectations across the Junior Years. Working closely with the Wellbeing Team, teachers, support staff and school leadership, the Middle Leader for Wellbeing will support the development and consistent implementation of positive, relational and developmentally appropriate approaches to behaviour and wellbeing.
The role will also involve identifying emerging needs, coordinating appropriate support and interventions, monitoring their effectiveness and contributing to the ongoing development of wellbeing provision across the Junior Years.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Strategic leadership of wellbeing: setting priorities and contributing to wellbeing, behaviour and pastoral policies
- Positive behaviour and consistent expectations: working closely with the Behaviour and Conduct Support Educator and promoting restorative, relationship-based approaches
- Pupil wellbeing programmes: developing, delivering and evaluating initiatives that build resilience, social skills and self-regulation
- Early identification, intervention and pupil support: coordinating strategies and access to additional services, including counselling and therapy
- Promoting positive relationships: fostering an inclusive culture and supporting anti-bullying initiatives
- Monitoring and evaluation: using pupil voice, staff feedback and behaviour and attendance data to measure impact
- Pupil voice: giving pupils meaningful ways to shape wellbeing in the Junior Years
- Wellbeing Team leadership and collaboration: coordinating the Junior Years Wellbeing Team and escalating concerns where needed
- Parent and caregiver engagement: working sensitively with families and community partners
- Transition and collaborative planning: supporting pupils through key transitions, including Early Years to Junior Years and Junior Years to Middle School
- Staff wellbeing initiatives: working with the Head of People to develop workshops, resources and activities for staff
- Staff support and professional development: guiding colleagues and coordinating relevant training
- Safeguarding and pupil welfare: upholding the school's safeguarding procedures at all times
- Continuous development: keeping up with good practice and recommending improvements
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is fluent in English, and proficient in Maltese.
- Has a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area with appropriate experience in a school-based environment.
- Any qualitification related to pupil wellbeing, mental health, safeguarding will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrates excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and thrives as part of a collaborative team.
- Has a genuine desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives and future success of our students.
- Holds a clean police conduct and has strong references.
