Position Description:
Under general supervision, the maintainer assists in rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining machinery, equipment, and facilities. This role supports the upkeep of Garden buildings and infrastructure and performs related duties as needed.
**After a training period, the maintainer will work a Monday–Friday schedule from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.**
Primary Responsibilities/Activities:
- Perform or supervise general maintenance and specialized work including automotive repairs, electrical systems, painting, glazing, stonework, woodworking, and shop work.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of machinery and specialized equipment.
- Repair and maintain HVAC systems and plumbing fixtures.
- Maintain records and prepare reports on work performed and materials used.
- Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of five (5) years of paid experience in building maintenance
Certificates of Fitness (FDNY):
- COF P-15 (Handle Motor Fuel-Dispensing and Fleet Service Station)
- COF A-35 (Operate and Maintain Air Compressors)
- COF G-60 (Torch Use of Flammable Gases)
- Candidates must possess these certificates or have the ability to obtain them within six months of hire; any required Certificates of Fitness obtained after hire will be at the Garden’s expense.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to pass written and/or practical test
- Valid New York State driver’s license
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary Range – $53,997 - $62,097
