About the Role

The Project Engineer will provide advanced performance analysis, design expertise, and independent engineering due diligence on utility-scale solar and energy storage projects during the development, design, construction, and asset management phases. You will partner with internal and external contacts to be a subject matter expert on technical specifications for solar and energy storage projects.

You must have utility-scale solar and/or energy storage engineering experience to qualify for this role. 

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, analyze, and recommend equipment and design specifications to external suppliers and internal Procurement partners based on technical design of the project.
  • Create and review photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage performance estimates using commercial software programs such as PVsyst or in-house models. Provide review of 3rd party modeling and studies.
  • Lead Independent Engineer (IE) due diligence including contract management, reviewing IE reports, IE energy assessments, and providing feedback as needed.  Lead technical support for bank due dilligence.
  • Provide Owner Engineering review and approval for projects in all stages of design.
  • Research new technologies and energy assessment techniques for PV and energy storage. 
  • Provide technical review, input, and risk assessment for key contracts and agreements including Interconnection, Equipment Procurement, Power Purchase, EPC, and O&M.
  • Provide guidance for and create advanced conceptual system design and site layouts for both PV and energy storage.
  • Drive technical specifications and evaluate scope of work for engineering design contracts, while also providing detailed oversight and support of contractors and providing technical review of contractor-supplied deliverables.
  • Perform value engineering analysis of design alternatives based on impact on financial returns.
  • Collaborate with individual department, as well as cross-functionally with other departments within the organization.
  • Maintain organizational excellence in terms of project timelines and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field. Electrical engineering is the preferred degree. 
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-7 years of experience in utility-scale photovoltaic and/or energy storage engineering.
  • Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and an ability to learn company-specific software programs, tools, processes, and machines.
  • Skills/Attributes:
    • Subject matter expert in specific types of equipment and understanding technical specs associated with advantages and risks of using a product.
    • Proficient in intermediate energy modeling techniques, capable of developing detailed simulations to forecast energy usage and optimize system performance.
    • Ability to review and understand SOW in engineering contracts and foundational understanding of other foundational external project documents.
    • Proven experience reviewing and influencing the project schedule, including design reviews, constructability, and value engineering.
    • Ability to lead and manage relationships with global vendors and third parties.
    • Ability to independently gather and understand project requirements to effectively complete a task. Identify roadblocks and help identify resolution.
    • Skilled in engineering project management, including coordinating multifaceted projects, allocating resources, and mitigating risks to achieve successful outcomes.
    • Proficient in articulating intricate details with clarity and precision, facilitating comprehensive comprehension among team members.
    • Self-motivated to work through complex problems and competing priorities, including a high level of detail and organization.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
