Reports to: General Manager

Common House is a modern social club designed to foster community through shared experiences, food and beverage, culture, and connection. With locations in Richmond, Charlottesville, Chattanooga, and New Orleans, each House serves as a gathering place for members to work, dine, and engage with curated programming.

Responsibilities

  • Member & Guest Experience
    • Providing exemplary customer service in line with company standards to all members and guests at the club
    • Greets guests within a minute of arrival
    • Observe and communicate with guests and assess their needs
    • Escort the guests to their destinations (table, bathroom, exit, etc.); always allow a guest to pass first, never cross their path or point to a destination
    • Act in a manner that professionally represents the values of the club
    • Accurately maintain checks for members and guests
    • Accept payment for food and beverage offerings
    • Update member and guest information in pos and pms
  • Service Area Preparation and Cleanliness
    • Proper stocking mise en place to meet forecasted volumes of service, before, during, and after service
    • Work in a clean and efficient manner that meets health and sanitation requirements
    • Ensure the cleanliness of service areas, storage areas, and guest service areas
    • Complete daily sidework
  • Knowledge
    • Maintain solid knowledge of the steps of service and related protocols
    • Maintain proficiency in beverage offerings and all unavailable menu (86’d) items
    • Keep up to date with food menu descriptions, allergens, and local purveyors
    • Participate in scheduled service trainings to further develop knowledge and enhance the ability to upsell
    • Comply with all ABC laws and regulations, and enforce these regulations with the service team
    • Knowledge of club layout, storage areas, including table and position numbers
    • Knowledge of goings on and club amenities
  • Communication
    • Communicate any daily beverage changes, par levels, or temporarily unavailable (86’d) items with managers and service staff
  • Additional Duties:
    • Prepare coffee, tea, and other beverage offerings for members and guests consistently and with strict adherence to club recipes and standards
    • Attend daily pre-service meetings
    • Attend the training sessions and read the training notes to improve your knowledge
    • Prepare any part of the club for a special event, which may include carrying chairs, tables, decorations, materials, and similar duties
    • Never leave the floor without the authorization of your manager
    • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
    • Be fully conversant with every aspect of the Club's emergency procedures
    • Be fully conversant with all the Club's policies as detailed within the employee handbook
    • Use all chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and CH requirements
    • To be aware of and ensure constant compliance with all necessary operational policies, including:
      • Health and Safety
      • Food Hygiene
      • Maintenance
      • Emergency Procedures
      • Liquor License Requirements
  • Prior service experience required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficient multitasking
  • Ability to recall and memorize menu items
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, to collect accurate information, and to resolve problems
  • Must have physical ability to access all areas of the facility, withstand prolonged standing, stretching, bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying items, work indoors, be exposed to hot/cold surfaces, steam, wet floors, and sharp knives, and withstand environmental factors include noise, dust, cigarette smoke (if applicable), etc.
