## Join our Team About this opportunity: QUIC is a modern Internet transport protocol first developed by Google to improve web traffic by reducing latency and supporting security and mobility. It is now widely used with HTTP/3, and is also being explored for applications such as Media over QUIC (MoQ), which can support low-latency streaming, conferencing, and event distribution. QUIC can be implemented in user space, enabling multiple implementations with different performance characteristics. Congestion control is essential to prevent network overload, and the selected algorithm can significantly affect application performance—particularly for applications using multiple concurrent streams or real-time encoding. This thesis will evaluate SCREAMv2 and BBRv3, congestion control algorithms being developed in the context of IETF standardisation, against existing algorithms. The focus will be on mobile-network conditions and tunnelling scenarios such as VPNs. What you will do: * Implement and verify SCREAMv2 and BBRv3 in two QUIC implementations, one in Rust and one in Python. * Evaluate the algorithms and compare their implementations under different network conditions. * Use emulated and simulated networks, including shallow-buffer networks using Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput (L4S), and test relevant application traffic patterns. * If issues or limitations are identified, investigate potential improvements where time allows. The skills you bring: * You are pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science, Control Systems, Signal Processing, or a related field. * Programming experience in Python and Rust. * A basic understanding of IP networks and Layer 4 transport protocols such as TCP and QUIC.
