The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in planning and directing the accounting operations of the company and is capable of performing nearly all functions of the Controller role, including managing the day-to-day accounting operations, preparing and reviewing financial reports, and supervising accounting staff. The Assistant Controller acts on behalf of the Controller as needed and is expected to step into that role in the Controller's absence.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Assists in overseeing the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll, and directly supervises accounting staff as assigned
- →Supports training programs and helps identify training needs for accounting staff
- →Helps maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; assists in implementing and monitoring controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
- →Prepares and reviews periodic financial reports; helps ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards
- →Assists in producing the annual budget and forecasts; helps identify and report significant budget differences to management
- →Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations, as directed by the Controller
- →Assists in working with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit
- →Helps ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
- →Upholds the company’s mission to provide exceptional patient care, and supports leadership in a way that aligns with the company’s ESG goals
- →Assists with month-end and year-end close, account reconciliations, and general ledger review, and is prepared to assume the Controller's responsibilities on a temporary or ongoing basis when needed
- →Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
- Strong management and supervisory skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required
- Five years or more of related accounting experience required, including supervisory experience
- Certified Public Accountant designation required
- Ability to maintain a strong confidentiality profile
- Ability to form interpersonal relationships (i.e. establish rapport with others)
- Ability to manage time effectively by setting priorities
Requirements
