Data Architect

As a Data Architect at Flooid, you will support customer projects by translating business and solution requirements into practical data designs, database changes and implementation approaches for our retail technology platform.

Working as part of customer project and engineering teams, you will collaborate with project managers, solution specialists, engineers and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, shape solutions and deliver agreed technical outcomes. You will provide data-related expertise throughout design, build, testing, deployment and early-life support, using established standards and patterns.

The role contributes across the customer project lifecycle, including discovery, estimation, solution design, implementation, testing, deployment and resolution of delivery issues.

This role combines customer-focused project delivery, database design, technical analysis and problem solving in a collaborative engineering environment.

As a member of the Data Management Team, you will deliver data-related work for customer projects and support agreed team priorities, including:

• Work with customer and internal stakeholders to clarify business, integration and data requirements for assigned projects.
• Translate agreed requirements into practical database, interface and data-processing designs using established Flooid patterns.
• Identify design dependencies, constraints and delivery risks, and raise them with the project team.
• Produce clear solution documentation that supports build, testing, deployment and ongoing support.

• Deliver assigned data and database work packages to agreed scope, quality and project timelines.
• Provide technical input during project discovery, planning, estimation and design reviews.
• Support configuration, development, testing, deployment and handover activities for customer solutions.
• Investigate and resolve project issues, communicate progress clearly and escalate risks or blockers promptly.

• Work closely with project managers, business analysts, solution specialists, engineers and testers to coordinate delivery.
• Explain technical options, assumptions and impacts clearly to technical and non-technical project stakeholders.
• Contribute evidence-based estimates, status updates and delivery information for assigned work.
• Work with engineers and technical leads to implement agreed customer solutions using appropriate data technologies.

• Support assigned database changes intended to improve performance or reliability.
• Assist with investigation of database performance issues.
• Suggest improvements to data processing efficiency within assigned areas.

• Update database schemas, data definitions and documentation for assigned work as directed.
• Follow agreed data standards and design guidance.
• Support quality and maintainability of assigned data deliverables.

• Support minor improvements to database tooling and automation within agreed team priorities.
• Review and provide feedback on specific technologies when requested.
• Assist with limited improvements to data-related processes and tools.

• Apply technical knowledge of SQL, XML/XSD, relational databases and data modeling.
• Share practical knowledge with colleagues within day-to-day work.
• Assist with problem-solving for assigned data-related issues.

• Experience delivering technical work within customer implementation or software delivery projects.
• Experience working with relational database platforms such as DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Good hands-on experience in SQL and PL/SQL.
• Experience working with XML and XSD technologies.
• Experience interpreting documented customer requirements and contributing to technical solution design.
• Experience supporting project testing, deployment, issue resolution or production handover.
• Experience contributing to database development, integration or configuration tasks within software delivery environments.
• Ability to organize assigned work, meet project commitments and communicate risks or blockers early.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to customers, colleagues and project stakeholders.

• Experience with XSLT and related XML transformation approaches.
• Awareness of software development practices, including collaborative working and maintainable code.
• Experience working within Java-based application environments.
• Exposure to retail or commerce technology environments.
